Hi. I was just wondering what you Mustang gurus think about which Mustang
is better. I am considering the 96-97 SVT Cobra (305 hp) vs. the Saleen
S281 (215 hp). The price of the two are virtually the same in Indiana
(difference is about 1000 dollars). The Saleen S281 definitely looks
nicer, but I am not too sure about how much I like 215 hp. The Cobra has
much more power to it, but I have heard bad things about its front
suspension. If anyone out there knows a lot about these two cars, I'd
appreciate your advice on why I should choose one over the other.

Thanks.

Buy the Saleen and put a Super Charger in it then you'll
have a true 300 + HP Mustang. The factory Cobras are fast
but they dont put out a true 305 HP MM&FF put one on a
dyno and they put out about 260 HP to the rear wheels
so your sacrificing about 45 HP but you'll have a car that
can run circles around a stock Cobra in everything but a
straight line...that's why ya need the super charger =)

MM&FF also dynoed a 96' GT and they got 199HP at the rear wheels. So the
Cobra has roughly 60 more HP stock vs. stock. I'd get a GT and add a
Vortech S-trim supercharger. The total cost of that would be around 23K.
And that would give you 300 rear-wheel HP. Saves you about 3-5K on a
Cobra and will outrun it easily.

I have a 96 Cobra and I would highly recommend it. I have 8000 miles on
my car and have had no problems. I don't know what problems you are
refering to on the front end but mine handles, looks, and drives GREAT!
Oh, I saw that comment about buying the siupercharger for the Saleen.
Why not buy the Cobra and put a Supercharger on it?

Because the Saleen will outhandle the Cobra and it looks a
lot more impressive as well ! The only reason to get the
Cobra instead of the Saleen would be from a collectors
standpoint but the Saleen with the Super Charger will not
only go fast but will handle unbelievably. If you think your
Cobra handles good then you need to drive the Saleen !
