It's a sensor that is mounted to a T bracket. It also has two bolts
through the top of the radiator support, and it sits directly behind the
passenger's headlight. To be more specific, the two bolts through the
radiator support are directly between the passenger side rubber bumper
for the hood adjustment, and the hinge for the hood prop rod. The T
bracket it is mounted to is removable itelf. Make sense?
The sensor is mounted in a black sheetmetal bracket and is potted on the
bottom. It looks to me like a large solid state accelerometer for the
air bag deployment, but I'm not really sure. It also has a sticker on
top with an arrow showing the forward direction, and directions that the
sensor must face forward. There is one connection to the sensor with two
wires coming out.
I can move the sensor, but I'm a little leary about doing it blindly. I
have already cut everything that needs to be cut with the sawsall, I
just need to locate this sensor somewhere else before proceeding any
further. If it's not the airbag sensor, I'll be less worried about
moving it. Call me crazy, but I don't want to screw anything up, and
have the airbag go off while I'm cruising up I95 at 75 mph in south
Florida rush hour traffic.
I would have looked in my Chilton's manual, but frankly, I forgot to
bring it to work today. Thanks.

That is indeed the air bag impact sensor.
You could move it over to clear your ram air.just make sure you remount it
securely
facing the same direction on the radiator core support and you shouldn't have
any problems

I just did a whole headlamp assembly replacement since they were
broken from the accident. There was (2) black boxes with a white
sticker on each, and each had been scraped up quite a bit from the
accident. I thought those were the sensors...maybe not though.

Those are the impact sensors, there is one on each side. This is the same sensor
Jared was making reference to.
Are you in need of new (used) ones?
