I know it doesn't add value to a car, but how many 87's and 88's had t-tops? I
know there were a good number of 87's and few 88's. Maybe in 20 or 30 years
when the 87-93 mustang become similar to the status of the 64-71 mustangs, i'll
find my t-topped 87 high on the list of desireable collector cars? (hey, i can
dream) I'm in love with t-tops and turned down a 90GT with a sunroof for a
87GT with t-tops. something about it being more open really attracts me. Can't
wait til summer to take them off and cruise around.

87 there were a lot.. 88 didnt have many becuase ford realized it was a bad
idea. bent roof and twisted frame results in drving the car. i had an 87 with
ttops. it was cool but i like my 90 with sunroof better.

I don't know the #'s but '88 T-Tops are rare. That's the year Ford switched
to sun roofs.

They've had sunroofs since '79 on mustangs

No, they only produced T-top's on 88's for the first few months of production.
Nobody ordered them (can't understand why?) and ford discontinued them early in
the 88 model year

Yes, t-tops were offered in early 1988. I only this for a fact because
my boyfriend just bought back "his" first new car. It is a 1988 Ford
Mustang LX w/t-tops. It's neat and the side mirrors are mounted on the
doors which happened with only a few of the t-top cars.

I had an 81 Mercury Capri with T-tops. I drove it hard, it no problems
with the frame. I think the T-top option actually improved the stability
of the roof. Sorry, I didn't answer the question at hand. I only got rid
of my Capri because I got rearended by a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

In late '87 I wanted to order an '88 5.0 LX with T-tops but didn't have the
cash at the time, ended up in November '88 getin' an '89 GT. A friend of
mine, Dave, in Ft. Walton Beach FL has(or had) a rare '88 GT, One of only 3
(I think) in Regatta Blue with T's.

Are you sure about that because it's not listed in the Mustang Red Book as an option for '88?  It's been pretty accurate so far.  What's your source for this info?

Nope, they exist--also check out the 5.0 LX registry, when you register
your car one checkbox is for T-Tops (1982-1988 only) as the site says.

Almost bought one as a matter of fact--but no cash at the time, but I
hear bad things about what the T-tops do to structural integrity.

Well my '82 with T-Tops is still holding itself together
just fine. Yes the T-Tops give you the structural intergity
of a convertable, but like the convertable they look really
good, and are a blast to drive with the tops off :)
