It too is front wheel drive (same platforms as the Sable) but the SHO has a V8,
also front wheel drive.
I think that would be a viable alternative to creating my own hack.
(BTW Mike, thanks for the concern, but the sedan will be mine, the wife getting
the truck, which I might have to borrow if both cars are on stands ;)
But I am *NOT* the biggest fan of late model taurus styling (most affordable
sedans for that matter). I've decided that the '00 Sable is something I can
live with, so I'm still interested in the 5.0 conversion. Well lets call it a
V-8 conversion.
If they can but a V-8 in a 98 taurus, there *HAS* to be a way to put an 8 in the
Sable without routing the drive train to the rear wheels.
Again, any ideas or even remarks/comments about the 98 SHO, would be
appreciated,
David

Hmmm... As one who has been there, stifle your creative impulses and get a
box-stock car for the wife.
1) Mods beget extra "fix-time" on any car.
2) nice to have a nice tame parts runner car.
3) GUARANTEE the wife will hit the ceiling the second time she needs to go
somewhere and sees both cars on jackstands.

While not a "walk in the park", how about adapting the transverse 4.6L
DOHC 32V InTech (detuned from 300 HP down to 275 for FWD usage)
powertrain from the late model Lincoln Continental?
Or better yet: just _buy_ the Continental. <g>
Since F-L-M had discontinued them (along with the Lincoln Blackwood,
Mercury Villager, Mercury Cougar and Ford Escort) you _should be able to
"make a _deal_."
BTW: the FWD 4.6L uses a different block than the RWD version.
The problem is that the V8 SHO was a slug. It was no faster than the V6 SHO
from what I've read, and a V6 5 speed Accord will take it.
The only front drive V8 Ford has is the Continental, and although it's a DOHC,
the Continental isn't light. But, since the Continental is a large sedan
derived from the Taurus, it might be possible to get one in with some unibody
mods. But even in the wider Continental, it's a really tight fit.
