A buddy told me adding 351W heads to my 302 makes a BOSS 302.

Is he right?

No, but adding 351 Cleveland 4bbl heads and a boss 302 intake and you'll
have one.

BTW, SVO quite making the alloy version about 5 years ago.

No so quick. Simply adding cleveland heads to a Windsor block does NOT make a
Boss 302. You better have the correct pistons for this swap as well. I think
the Boss cranks were different as well. While not a terrible idea, it's a lot
of work..machine work that is. I'd add a good set of aluminum aftermarket
Windsor heads instead.

Mike, he's not even close! The Boss 302 has 4-bolt mains,
forged steel crankshaft, Clevland "Style" (Read Canted Valve)
heads, Mechanical cam, Special rods, Forged pistons & more.
Adding 351W heads to a regular 302 is a good way to help
out a regular 302, but it isn't even close to a Boss.

No,
A boss 302 had Cleveland heads on a bitty 302 block and some $2000.00
intake that's hard to find.
351W heads on a 302 would just be allot of flow.

The valve covers on the Boss' are wider than those on the standard 302

No doubt! I guess those NASCAR boys are just too stupid to use
those windsor based Non-Canted valved heads! Guess they just don't
want to go too fast! For the rest- come on out to the Silver State
run & see what a Cleveland in a Pantera can do. Can you say
Naturally Aspirated & 212 MPH?!! Try that with a Windsor!!

yea! they re about 351 Cleveland wide and NO on the 351 w heads make a Boss
302. You'll need a 4Bolt main block, steel crank, screw in freeze plugs,
Cleveland heads, good rods, windage tray, good intake and a hot cam to get
similar results but you will get better low end torque with the 351 W heads.

Your buddy is wrong-- it's 351 Cleveland heads on a 302.
