I've wanted a Mustang for years, and I'm now getting ready to take the
plunge. While I was expecting to go with a Cobra ('01), I love the
look and the stats on a 2001 Saleen 281SC (#283) with the sportster
package and a bunch of other upgrades. The sticker price is almost
$48k.

I know there are people who think this is a ridiculous price for a
Mustang. No need to reply - I've seen plenty of similar posts on this
board.

However, my question is this. Is there any bargaining on these cars,
or is the sticker price the price you generally pay. I live in
Virginia, and there's obviously a limited market for the cars (as well
as a very limited supply).

Any input/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

If you are considering a Saleen or Roush, definately shop around.
Many dealers even add a "premium" to the sticker!

I forgot the dealer, but one of them was offering Saleens at a "huge"
price reduction. The "huge" was part of their wording. The ad even
said you can get "low" Ford financing on these Saleens.

The dealer was in So. Cal. I can't remember which one, but it was one
of the major big dealers. My buddy showed me the ad since I like
Mustangs. I *believe* the ad was in the LA Times a few weeks ago.

Beverly Hills Ford had 2 Saleens a couple of months back. They were
asking for sticker. I talked to the sales guy and he said that if I
was seriously interested, they could *probably* work out a deal for me
(I purchased my '00GT from them).

And I know you don't wanna hear this, but did you know the BMW M3 is
going for almost the same price? And they are just as fast as a
Saleen 281SC. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Saleens and Roushe
Mustangs, I AM jealous and envious; but $48,000?........

MM&FF reviewed the Roush Stage 3 in their latest issue and they put
it in a good way after talking about the $50,000 price tag:

"If Roush sells every one it can build, it was priced right. If they
languish on lots, it was too much". :-)

Good Luck,

Howard
