I have discovered that the speed sensor was removed from my 90 LX and a
standard speedometer cable installed. I have purchased a new sensor and
special cable and am in the process of installing them. As I have an Air Bag
I disconnected the battery cables prior to opening the dash gain easy access
to cable connection. As this is my first Ford as well as my first "computer
controlled" car I am concerned that I might overlook some step or do things
in the wrong order.

I do have some specific questions though:

1. Is it possible that the installation of the speed sensor could cause some
problem hidden by its absence?

2. Once I have everything installed is it true that the car should idle a
few minutes so as to re-learn how to run the car? Would I expect to see poor
operation for minutes/days?

3. I have seen postings related to special chips for use in the computers.
Is this the most common component to fail in the computer and would it be
wise to have a spare.

I am enjoying my first Ford and have found this list to be a great source of
information.

Thanks in advance.

Not likely.

Not necessary for installing a speed sensor. The speed sensor doesn't read
anything if you are not moving.

Computer chips rarely fail, and in a Ford they are not replacable. They are
soldered to the circuit board.
