Well, maybe he decided that he'd go easy on ya. Or, more likely, he was
someone who didn't know how to drive right....

Well not smoked, but beat it by about 1.5 - 2 car lengths.

It was on a cool night with the temperature at about 50 degrees.

I was driving home from work at about 10pm on an almost empty 4 lane
road. Just driving along minding my own business, when all of the
sudden I can see headlights coming at me extremely fast, and then
zooms by me and cuts into my lane in front of me really fast.

There were two other empty lanes for crying out loud!

Of course it was your average asshole in a late model Mustang with
dual exhaus so it must have been a V8.

Then he gets stopped at the stop light that just turned red and when I
came up to him, I rolled down the windows and asked what was his
problem. But he starts reving his engine and pretends to not hear me.

So when the lights on the other direction turns yellow, he inches
forward and so do I.

When the lights turns green, we both launched hard and I didn't hear
his tires bog nor did mine. We were neck to neck and I heard him shift
to second before I did. So I was inching away from him, and then in
second I was about 1/2 a car length away.

In third, I was at least a car length passed him and slowly pulling
away.

The retard then slows down and pulls into a shopping center (with all
the stores closed btw).

haha

Man that was fun.

I thought that Mustangs were faster considering that I'm driving a
comfortable sedan with four doors that seats five easily with all of
the power options, CD changer, good gas mileage and great driveability
in rain and snow.

I smoked a GT with my 4dr v-6 Grand Prix SE by at least 3 car lengths.
Roads were wet and my car handled better that was the major factor.

Yeah, got to make it *somewhat* believable if your going trolling.

Ahh, good air...love this time of year!

>I was driving home from work at about 10pm on an almost empty 4 lane

>Just driving along minding my own business,<

The story HAS to have that part. Sorry, go ahead with your fictional story.

>when all of the sudden I can see headlights coming at me extremely fast,

It's a Mustang. You know...Mustang, extremely fast, they go together.

>and then zooms by me and cuts into my lane in front of me really fast.

Oh yeah! What a rare sight..to see a Maxima. A once in a lifetime race, I'm
sure. Could your imaginary car by chance be a Maxima Type R? I've heard they
are really rare and deadly fast!

>There were two other empty lanes for crying out loud!

The gall of some people, huh?

>Of course it was your average asshole in a late model Mustang with dual

exhaust >so it must have been a V8.

No, sounds like it's one of those 4 cylinder assholes with the aftermarket
(rigged up) dual exhaust conversion.

>Then he gets stopped at the stop light that just turned red and when I
>came up to him,

On a 4 lane road, call it a highway, a traffic light suddenly appears? lol
Weak! But go ahead, it's your little bedtime story.

>I rolled down the windows and asked what was his problem.

A newsgroup troll has balls enough to do this? This story is smelling really
bad now.

>But he starts reving his engine and pretends to not hear me.

Who wouldn't? My god it's probably his once in a life time chance to race a
Maxima. He probably passed up a Hemi 'Cuda and a 427 AC Cobra on the same
freeway just to get a chance to race you.

>So when the lights on the other direction turns yellow, he inches

Oh, the suspense is killing me...hurry, type faster!

Gosh, I hate when your *tires bog.* LOL You are some kind of car enthusiast,
I'm tellin you...

The only thing you've been neck and neck with is your sister.

>and I heard him shift to second before I did. So I was inching away from him,

No doubt from your superior shifting ability, huh? Your such a "car guy"...

>In third, I was at least a car length passed him and slowly pulling

Those 4 cylinder Mustangs are kinda weak on the top end.

>The retard then slows down and pulls into a shopping center (with all

So tell us, why did *you* pull into shopping center?

>haha

"haha" You shouldn't use these. They're a red flag that your a troll...not
that we didn't already know. But for next time, don't use 'em.

Boy, oh boy, what a story! I'm so enraged...you've made me so angry....I'm so
mad at you for writing this fictional story....that I think I'll just go to
bed.

Hey, that's a good finish! That will surely hook 'em. Question for yah
though. Is there some kind of template your working off of to create your
stories? You know, maybe like a fill in the blank with the cars of your
choice. Not that they're bad, really they're not! I can work these, but I'd
like something a little different next time. I don't know, give it some
thought, try to surprise me. Anyway you've made me tired thanks, good

Depends on the Mustang. The Maxima SE isn't a slow car. It's got 190hp
and weighs a couple of hundred pounds less than the GT. The 0-60 times
are very close. The SE does about 15.5@90 in the 1/4 whereas the GT
does, I believe, a little lower and with a higher trap speed. He
probably would have pulled ahead if he had kept in it longer.

The Cobra is another matter though.....;-)

I believe the template used for this story is interchangeable with the same
template use for stories you send in to the Penthouse Forum. Read it again
and you'll see what I mean.

P.S. Dump the Accord EX, the ladies only like it because they think you're
gay. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

O.K. Let's take a look at this, Neil (and Maxima guy):

A guy goes to buy a car. In the dealer's lot there are cars with 2 doors and
big engines and there are cars with 4 doors and small/medium engines. The
guy thinks, "Gee, which one should I buy?" WRONG! The answer is obvious,
Neil (and Maxima guy)! The only way a guy thinks to himself (or say "gee" or
that matter) is because of that woman he married. Yeah, that one... the one
standing behind you... the one manipulating the strings above you -
connected to you.

You see the 4-dr Grand Prix and Maxima where made and marketed as the car
for all you castrated gentlemen who are not allowed to buy the beautiful
cars with only two doors. That's why the call them "SE". "Oooh, that means
it's really cool!" WRONG! It means it's the Suckers Edition. Whether sucker
refers to buy the car or being married still remains a mystery to Americans
everywhere.

I'm sorry Neil (and Maxima guy). I'm sorry for pulling the last remaining
testicle that you still possessed. But you're wasting your time and our
time. The truth of the story is that married guys in 4-door cars spend a
great deal of time doing two things: 1) transporting milk and diapers at
night. Having to pass endless hours travelling with no incident at all. It's
inevitable that they end up expressing their delusions online. Happy to
impress other married guys (because they failed to impress their wives that
night).

Oh, yeah... 2) cruising around for teenage girls is the other pasttime. It's
again inevitable that they end up expressing their delusions online. Happy
to impress other married guys (because they failed to impress their wives
that night).

P.S. Aren't these front drive cars? How are they able to take off from the
light so fast (I mean without the steam catapult)?

Obviously, you've trolled in here before. The style of B.S. and the choice of
words is familiar. You're just one of those cowards hiding behind a fished
account/screen name. 1st off.......tires don't "bog"......engines do.
"Typical Mustang asshole"..........a phrase you invented because that's just
the way YOU feel about Stang owners. "Revs his engine at me to pretend he
doesn't hear me".......that even happens in your dreams. "Minding my own
business".............just about every COOL story starts out that way and those
words were unwisely chosen for your flaming troll post. It's just so obvious.
Hey, even IF it did happen, I most likely would have turned off into an empty
shopping center, too, thinking to myself "why did I even bother waste my gas
playing with this ricer? I should turn around and look for a car worth
racing." Prick. I hope you die on Christmas day.

are considerably slower than a Vette. The 540 is in the range of the

I smoked a GT with my John Deere (GT of course). I raised the blade,
punched it, and rolled off out over the grass. Stupid loser in his

Yeah i've heard of a 5 series BMW. Doesn't the 528 have less horsepower
than a SVT countour, or an Interga type R, or a Mustang GT, or a Explorer,
or a Corvette, or a Camaro (notice, no "e") etc. Sure there are some fast
FWD cars out there. But about the fastest youlll see is a 10 sec. car,, the
fastest RWD street car? somewhere in the 8 sec. range. I must say that I
have no inferiority complex, especially after seeing what trash like you
post. My mustang doesn't have any sticker on it, nor does my 93 RX-7. I'll
bet those "fast" FWD cars do though.

Well, until I actually see these "Stangs" getting roasted, I have a
feeling someone is dreaming. Some Jap cars are fast but let's face it,
the Mustang is still damn fast and bottom line is, unless the driver is
an idiot, they'll smoke most Jap stuff (especially anything in the same

The bleediing-edge latest M5 has 400 horsepower out of a 5.0 liter V8.
For the cash, you could take that slow old C5 and pump out some honest
horsepower and have a nicer car than the M5 all around. A warmed up C5
vette is pulling 11.9s in the 1/4 mile no sweat, still drivable and you
have a two-seater with great handling, the right sounds, et al.

According to Road & Track (8/98),

97 Maxima SE 190hp 7.1 (0-60) 15.5 (1/4)
96 Mustang GT 215hp 6.8 15.3

And magazines other than hotrodding mags or especially car _specific_
magazines (like MM&FF) are less biased in their testings. As R&T don't
launch at high RPMs, nor slip clutches nor powershifts, nor ice the
intake between runs for better times. And drivers from both camps are
all car enthusiasts/pro drivers, etc.

This story is very believable as it should be much easier to launch a
FWD Maxima as opposed to a RWD Mustang. And with the accelleration
times from the mags being so close, it would make it even more so
believable.

Many people claim great timeslips at the track, but can never find
these timeslips. I've seen guy doing 17.80s in 5.0 GTs because they
couldn't drive. And the scoreboard don't lie.

There are plenty of Taurus SHOs with a Yamaha engine that can take an
SN95 GT.

An SN95 GT with automatic will certainly have plenty of problems up
against these cars.

It's a shame that a V8 Mustang cannot dust (like it used to) cars that
are geared for comfort and driveability in the snow.

Compared to what? If you compare it to it's closet rivals, the 'maro and
the Firebird, it is beaten. That was one of the problems with the newer
Mustangs - not to mention the price. The 99's suspension is supposed to
be a lot better though.

Kwik-Z, what is the AWD Skyline, SupraTT, or Mitsu Eclipse "a upgraded copy
of?" And no, 300hp isn't necessarily a lot, but new Camaros don't come with
much more hp than that stock, and in Japan a Mitsu EVO AWD 2.0 is "rated" at
280hp stock, 260+ lbs-ft torque, and also has an independent suspension with
Active Yaw Control that splits up the power to the wheels to help in turns.
Performance cars from overseas can hang with performance cars from America just
fine.

Well, I've seen the rustangs get roasted on several occaisions. I have
never lost to a rustang be it a cobra or what have you. The last time I saw
a cobra it was in the rear view mirror of my 300ZX Twin Turbo, while leaving

Don't get me wrong here, I love the 300ZX (esp. the TT, but the insurance
would probably make me pass out. . .) but the Cobra is a fine machine, and
certainly a match for the 300 - more torque, about the same horsepower, and
though I haven't seen the numbers in a while, I believe a higher 1/4 mile
and trap speed.

Not really - from what I've seen, the Mustang fans have a great appreciation
for import cars that are worthwhile -nice power, handling, AWD or RWD. It's
the little FWD cars that think they're drag racers that they laugh at.

>b) a car w/ 1/2 the displacement
Once again - going back to false stereotypes.

So torque's not important? Hahaha.

Have you ever driven a Cobra, or a slightly modified GT?

Obviously, you're unable to move past stereotypes. Saying this crap about
Mustang fans is like saying everyone who drives a Prelude is a riceboy.

You're so high on Nissans it's pathetic and obvious that you're lying through
your crooked teeth. I've raced several 300 TTs around Fayetteville, NC and I
have a mild 88 GT. I hear those cars screaming for gear and more power all the
time. They pose no threat to me or most of the the other Mustang around here.
Even after having been beaten by my car car the same idiots I've raced come
back for more knowing that they will get toasted. I know 1 guy with a TT300
and he's a good sport about it because the car belongs to his wife. 3 years
ago I raced a white 300 TT with SC tags on it and we went at it twice on a
military installation. My car was still 98% stock then. He got me out of the
hole by just a fender when we left a light. After passing a wave of traffic we
did a 100+MPH race where he did take me after 80MPH where we were side by side
most of the way until the sound of his car changed to that of a vaccuum cleaner
on crack-rock and pulled away from me like nothing displaying a huge NOS
sticker in the back window. 3 weeks after that race I was looking for some
parts at a local salvage yard for my dad's 76 Grand Prix which we were
restoring and saw that same car brought up to the weight scale by a rollback
tow truck all burned up. The nitrous was too friendly too that guys car. If
you still think you're big stuff with your ride, bring it down to Fayetteville,
NC and prove yourself manly and worthy of beating mine and some of the other
local Mustangs. If not..........just die. As for Mr. Maxima SE I forgot to
mention in my earlier post also the your typical FWD cars can't "launch hard"
the way you quoted it. Not even with slicks mounted up front.

And what was the sticker on a 300TT compared to a 5.0L Mustang? I still
laugh at the idea that a Maxima can "roast" a 5.0L. That's about as
funny as a thread a few months ago about some Altima "eating" a Gran
Prix GTP.

i'm a newbie to many things auto related (Stang specifically),
but i'm doing my best to get knowledgable. reading this
newsgroup has been beneficial. i've got kind of a chump
question, but thought i'd toss it out...

i'm working on a '67 Coupe. there is a leak through the
trim along the top of the back window. water pretty much
pours right through onto the back seat. i've got some good
sealer.

i unscrewed and easily removed the chrome trim located on either
side of the back window, but i don't know how to remove the metal
strip along the top of the window. There are no visible screws,
and it's fixed pretty solidly in position.

i don't know whether it's stuck with adhesive/sealer, and i
should just put some "elbow grease" into removing it, or whether
the strip is fitted into the canopy somehow, and i'll ruin it by
forcing it off.

anyone know offhand how to safely/easily pull this piece off?
thanks a million (in advance) for any info.

A guy in a black late-model Cobra got playful with me about a month ago.
I noticed his single-side rollbar, wider-than normal tires, definitely
different exhaust note, and personallized tag that said "THX2SVT" (this is
in San Jose, CA). After him revving it a few times and looking at me
real meaningfully, I went ahead and succumbed when we got a totally clear
interstate in front of us - and, was quite amazed that that I only walked
away from him rather than leave him like he was sitting still, as I
usually do to any Mustang. I actually went to full throttle after
realizing that half-throttle was only matching him. :-) The little
drag race only lasted perhaps ten seconds, but was enough to point out
that this Cobra was a bit unusual.

Thats pretty respectable, although from the personalized tag and
other visual and audible clues I got the impression that it wasn't a
totally stock Cobra, either. Hope he also knows that the later Vipers
are a bit more powerful than my 1995 model, also. :-)

was the GT an automatic with 2.73 gears? was the nissan an auto or 5spd? was
the GT a convertible? a 5spd GT with 3.27's?
my 96 has the stick and 3.27's. my first time at the track, i ran a 15.4 at
93mph with no traction at all and lousy 0-60' times (i'm a bad driver) of
2.4 - 2.6.

Not to sound ambiguous or anything, but saying you had to go 140 to beat the
cobra doesn't sound very congenial on your part 'cause most ppl wouldn't go that
fast especially on a street/highway. I *kinda* like the 300zx but come on lets
be real, you really think the cobra was pushing it all the way and it was so
slow compared to your car that you left it so behind that you saw it on your
rear view mirror?

Obviously, you've trolled in here before. The style of B.S. and the choice

account/screen name. 1st off.......tires don't "bog"......engines do.

the way YOU feel about Stang owners. "Revs his engine at me to pretend he

Hey, even IF it did happen, I most likely would have turned off into an

Get a clue. No body "handed it" to anybody....
As a current owner (until I sell it real soon) of a 94 Nissan Maxima SE
5-speed (and a former owner of a modded 94 GT and a stock 95 GT - both 5
speeds) I can tell you this:

The 5 speed maxima *might* be able to keep up with a stock 'autotragic'
tall-geared sn95 'stang - might. As a driver of a Maxima (currently) I can
attest that they are reasonably quick. Stock Maximas crank out mid 15 second
passes (see http://maxima.ml.org/timeslip.htm for more proof).
Hell, it takes a 50 shot of NOS and ~$2 grand in bolt ons just to dip into
the 14's!

Sounds like a troll, smells like a troll, must be a troll....

Jeff

BTW - headbone, you might want to go get the 'supersize' Minute rice and put
it in your tank. I here it is worth 75 HP and 20 rice points.

Not a chump question at all!
This strip is held on with clips, and probably has some excess sealer
sticking it on as well.
There is an inexpensive special tool available at parts houses and auto
body suppliers, that will
pop the trim loose. It can also be done (carefully!) with a wide bladed
screwdriver or a gasket
scraper between the window gasket and the trim strip.
It's just a matter of popping it free from the clips. Same with the strip
across the bottom.
If the window is leaking that badly, you should probably just plan on
replacing the gasket.
It's also possible there's a rust problem, though on a '67/68, that usually
happens on the lower
corners of the back window, rather than the upper corners.
As it happens, there is a feature in the January 99 issue of 'Mustang and
Fords' on replacing
the windshield and rear glass (or gaskets). They suggest using 3M's
'Window Weld' sealer.

I dont really lean towards Ford but..

So these specs I assume was done by the same driver, same place, same temp, same
altitude? Because anyone *should* know specs varry.

Good reply to original post. My comment is relative to what you may
need to fix; sealer squirted in along the rubber seal may not solve
your problem. As mentioned earlier, rust may be the problem.

I had to remove the front window of my 65 fastback in order to sand
out the rust holes along the window lip, then primer and repaint to
get the leak to stop. These holes were not big, nor numerous: About
5-7 of them, non larger than a couple millimeters in diameter.

The results were so good that I did the back window, too, just in
case. There were holes there, but no leaks at that time. Fixed those
holes, too.

As mentioned before, there are good articles on windshield replacement
and sealing. It's not hard or difficult, but extremely messy. Remove
your dash if possible and cover your interior near the windows.

Or maybe I'm just sloppy...

A) Odd. I have never see one of these. I'm sure I would have remembered it as
the "wagon with the big impressive name".
B) The new Mustang GTs are, sad to say, underpowered. They can barely outpull
the average pickup truck (sorry guys). Someday Ford will put the *right*
engine in one of those, and you will be toast.

Let's not forget the high price tag, and cost of repairs/parts. $1300 bucks to
replace a head gasket (Supra!) does not appeal to me.

Also, I am amused how all the references are to late model
Camaros/Mustangs/etc.
(Let me puff out here)
That's because old cars are true wildcards. You never know what is under our

Good point. Much is made of how a particular car "handles" better than another.
Truth be told, it as much boils down to driver skill as anything.

My, my... I wonder whose suffering from an inferiority complex? In one
broken up paragraph you manage to defend 4-doors, FWD, Maxima's, buying
diapers and milk and pedifilia. While simultaeneously putting down millions
of innocent Mustang, Camaro and Corvetto drivers by applying a stereotype
that only describes 16-year-old, white, suburban males from the mid-west
during the early-90's. And attacking Americana, too! impressive! So can I
conclude that I hit a sore spot or that you like to cruise for immature
16-year-old boys in your 5 Series BMW?

When angered, many people show their lack of good education... but I forgive

"Rustangs"... what derogatory comment is that, boy. "Never lost..."? Really,
you no doubt say this to your dates while slipping "ruffies" into their

What backwater town allows you the space to beat a car (any car) and

A '96GT? That's the slowest Mustang in recent memory. The troll only said a
dual exhausted Mustang. My dual exhausted '87 ran 14.2s @ 98 stock. My Cobra
is sure to run in the 13's easily (can't wait for spring). Plus, most Mustangs
driven by younger guys are no longer stock and and most Maximas are pure stock.
Then factor in that magazine numbers are also taken at a slippery dragstrip
where a front drive car won't suffer as badly as a RWD car on street tires. On
the street where traction is better, a RWD 5 speed Mustang will beat up a FWD
Maxima.

I've got mine. Nothing higher than a 14.5 @ 93 (hung up on third) and the rest
were 14.2-14.4 and had trap speeds at 97 or 98 mph.

>I've seen guy doing 17.80s in 5.0 GTs because they couldn't drive.

True, a SHO is a low 15 or possibly a high 14 second piece.

Definately.

I say this slowly for all to understand: if one spends too much time
developing theories using statistical numbers in defense of a car, one will
always conclude that the car was just in competing against an obvious
superior car. The person doing the theories will eventually convince
him/herself that the theory is correct. However, in practice, the Maxima
succumbs to the Mustang, inevitably getting it's tyres "bogged" down in the
resulting crumbled asphalt left in the wake of said Mustang.

Now, Mr. Manson, get into your convertible, find a willing (and seemingly
disturbed) Maxima driver and test those numbers. Right now you're thinking,
"Why bother? I'm going to inflict emotional trauma to an innocent Maxima
owner unnecessarily and for cruel, it not selfish, reasons". Then you say
[aloud], "Thanks, Angel! For saving me from doing a bad thing to my fellow
man that would have reserved a special place for me in Hell. Thanks!"

You have good Mustang drivers, and you have asshole Mustang drivers. You had
an encounter with an asshole driver. Sure, I drive a Mustang but I don't use
it as a tool to enforce my ego.

People compete with car stereos, sports cars, but in the end its the vehicle
or accessory within which is responsible for the power -- the idiot forking
the money out is the one to laugh at

I think that your just jealous cause a 4-DR with a v-6 can beat a 2-dr
Mustang with a v-8. Mind you if I had a supercharged 3.8 I would have left
that GT that I raced behind by like 10 car lengths. Ordinarilly I would
not even think about racing a mustang, but my friend kept beefing up her GT
so much that one night we just raced for the fun of it. And she even had
to admit that she never thought my car could ever beat hers like that. So
why dont you keep your moronic crap to yourself. And if I was on a car lot
and saw the cars you mentioned I would purchase the one that drove better,
had more comfort, and looked nicer. HP is not everything.
