Creative Masters RARE "correct" Shelby #8820
This is the RARE one, the "correct" version produced near the end of the
manufacturing run, only a few have turned up. I received this as a gift
from Revell/Monogram for doing a TV spot for them on a local morning show
and it has been in my posession ever since. Though it has been examined,
it is still mint in the original packing and has never been out of the box
for more than a few minutes.
Why Rare?
Tony Perrone, of Ridgway Die Cast Collectibles (www.ridgwaynet.com),
explains it like this:
"Originally the model was produced incorrectly with the engine painted in
blue and a chrome grill. The model was apparently made from measurements
and photographs of a Salinas, California restoration. These errors were
soon pointed out by members of the Shelby American Automobile Club and
production of the remaining models was revised. The production was near
its end though so very few of the correct black engine models can be found
!"
This is the correct version with the black engine and black grill, unlike
the majority of the production run which featured blue engines and chrome
grill. The scan on ebay also shows that the kit is boxed with the revised
model number 8820.
