how useful is that spoiler on my 96 GT vert?

Today I backed into a tree and caused some damage to my rear spoiler.
I noticed when I open my trunk there are two *visible* screws in the trunk
lid that appear to be all that holds on the spoiler. Does anyone know if
that is true?
Next question: At what speeds do you think that spoiler is actually useful,
if any?
I'm really not tied to keeping that thing or replacing it.
Finally, if I remove those screws and the spoiler, what do I do about the
two holes? Ideas?

I backed into a parking spot where a tree trunk that curves hangs out.
The curve is the reason why the spoiler was damaged but not anything else.
To me this became an opportunity to get rid of the spoiler altogether.
For me, it is an extra thing to scrub (and scrub under) when I wash the car.
Yeah, some people think it looks cool and it definitely makes the car look
sportier but what seals the deal for me is that the damn thing adds little
or no *function* at the speeds I drive (<100).
I'm looking forward to having a nice, clean back deck! To me, elegance
usually involves "less is more."

Personally, I don't like the bare naked look. I don't care if it provides
any other function than to look pretty, I won't leave home without it LOL
You MAY be able to find a deck lid, sans spoiler holes, in the right color
if you look hard enough. Luckily your car is white, so it should be a
relatively easy match.

I'm with you, Scotter. I especially like the SN-95 body without the
rear spoiler. Their already high tail-end makes a rear spoiler look
like it's perched up too high.

And I'm realizing two other things that appeal to me when I think about
no-spoiler:
(a) car becomes that much more of a "sleeper"; and
(b) car becomes that much more unique/mine

Finally, with a used one from a different car, the chance exists for either
(a) slight color mismatch due to fading; and/or (b) scratches/dings and wow
if it was one shipped then that means even more of my time to ship it back
and find another one.

Same reason I don't change my own oil or do my own tune-ups. I'd rather
spend my free time having sex.

Hey, it was just a thought, and if you found one at a quality wrecking yard,
something you can do on the phone, or a good wrecker can run a search for
you. There IS a chance the color may be off just a touch

There is also that chance if they paint it, and the possibility that in
order to make the paint match they might have to blend into the rear quarter
panels because your paint may have aged or yrllowed a bit.
A butt match may not match at all.

the body itself. Nothing's free, spoiling aerodynamic lift also creates
drag. It's a trade off, remove the undesired lift which will effect handling
or spoil that lift and live with a little extra drag. Spoilers are effective
to a degree at any speed, just as the lift the body creates varies at
different speeds including those legal on the highway. Will you notice a
difference on the highway? Doubt it. If I would have ordered my Cobra it
would have had the spoiler delete option.

others have used a plastic screw hole cover, painted body color then glued
in, found in a mechanical parts catalog.
