Can anyone help me on this one?
I haven't heard a whole lot on the 1996 (or 1995) Mustang...

Generally, how is the car? Is is worth buying, or would I be better off
getting something else for my money? Reliable?

I was thinking about getting a used '95 model, but I think that was the
first year of production for the new style (????), and I've been told to
stay away from first-year cars.

Lastly, can anyone point me in the direction of some credible (good)
reviews of the car?

E-mail is preferred, thanks.

Thank you,
C. Wilson

You have a few things to consider here. The '96 is the first year
with the new Engine and Transmission. The '94 and '95 came with the
earlier engine, but the new body. Ford went through a transition of
the body then the engine over a few year period.

They generally perform much the same, but there are some drastic
differences which may help you make a decsion. The '96 is suppose to
be smoother then the earlier engine. The '95 engine is a standard 5.0
so there are TONNES of aftermarket parts for it if you are in to
upgrading your car.

Hmm. This one is pretty subjective. I bought a '96 last October and
I'm liking it very much. After 10 months, the only problems I've had
is my gas guage started acting up and needed replacing, and my
windshield washer sprayers got plugged up with something and also were
replaced. This is really minor stuff and was done under warrenty with
no problems.

Is it Reliable, ya, I think so. How does it compare with other cars,
I really don't know. As for getting something else, can't advise you
there, I don't know what you want to drive.

To me a mustang is not something that you would put on a shopping list
of 5 different cars and then go and compare them against each other.
A Mustang is a special car, you either want one or you don't.

It's not the first year. It has a very tried and true Engine and
Tranny, with a second model year body. The '96 is more of a first
year model, but even it is based on Fords Modular V8 which has been
used in other cars for a number of years (Crown Vic, etc). Ford is
using variations of that engine in a lot of different cars, from
luxury to trucks (F150).

Do a search on the 'Net and you should find some. All the car mags
have also done reviews. Careful though, watch what their criteria
is, and wether it matches yours. e.g. Ford's own Owner survey asks
for a rating on how quiet the car is. Mustangs aren't suppose to be
quiet, the designers went to a lot of trouble giving it a good
sounding exhaust system! It's a pony car, not a Lexus. (it is pretty
comfy though).
