Did any other 99 owners have problems with their paint jobs? I have a black 99
and the paint has already gone to hell. I'm not sure if they didn't give me a
clear coat or what the story was. I had a black 93 before this one and the
paint job on that one looked better than the 99 does now. Anyone else having
problems with this? The good news is that they cover it under warranty.

Yep, plenty of problems. Unfortunately, I had a "special coating" on mine to
prevent the bird poop and tree sap from sticking on it. The special coating wasn't
under factory warranty, but was under the warranty of the paint they sold me (they
said if I didn't have that warranty, they wouldn't of fixed it.) It's only like 5
bucks a month though. If I didn't have that special coating, then after the 3rd
time, I could of called it a lemon. By the way, it was the paint itself bubbling
up from underneath. I too have a black 99GT. It's tough to keep clean! :)

I have a Performance Red 99 GT. Mine have was painted originally 7 times before I
found it acceptable. Every time for either a crappy factory paint job or a crappy
dealer job. I has been painted twice more since then for touch ups due to a different
dealer hitting it. That doesn't count though. Crappy paint! BTW, that paint is not
really clear coated. There is no clear coat of paint. I have seen my being painted.
The paint itself dries then rubs down like that.

The paint is indeed 'clear coated' at the factory. I have a video tape
showing this being done. Every shop I know, also clear-coats paint the
same way, although the el-cheapo paint jobs do not include this.

Then I got an el cheapo and I can't tell "yet". I am picky as evidenced
by the 9 total paint jobs. Ford shops did all of my repainting too.

I don't blame you. If you can beg, borrow or steal the videotape, "How
a Car is Made", do it. Shows a complete Mustang being built, and it
does include the painting, clear-coat and E-coat process, something I
found to be fascinating.
