The owners manual for my 96 Mustang GT specifies the use of Ford
coolant E2FZ-19549-AA. Is there an equivalent Prestone or Xerex
coolant?

Ford seems only to use their part #'s in their owners manuals, hoping
you will go buy their overpriced accessories. Any name brand
anti-freeze/coolant will be fine.

Is the coolant red or the traditional green? I'm not sure about the newer model
stangs but many manufacters are putting in a red colored coolant that last for
the life of the car. If it's the normal green color than use any coolant you
want in it's place.

My 97 GT is green, so I assume the same for the 96 GT. :)

Ford recommends not using the "environmentally safe" type antifreeze
(i.e. Sierra). They don't contain the corrosion inhibitors that the
"unsafe" stuff does. It can void your warranty. Check out
www.alldata.com Each year Mustang has a TSB that discusses this issue.
Redline products also can corrode your engine and radiator. Make sure
you read the warning labels before considering these products. I'll
stick to Prestone. I have been using it for 15 years in multiple
vehicles. No complaints yet.
