I've had this annoying creak I hear coming from the rear of my car for about 2
months. It only occurs when I set the car in forward motion. I thought that
it may have been related to the Eibach lowering springs I installed a while
back. It turned out to be the latches on the fold down rear seats, where there
is metal on metal contact. Just sprayed a little silicon lubricant, and the
creaks are no more...

I had the same problem with "The Creak" on my rear deck. If I removed the
foam piece above the rear seat, then the creak went away. It turns out, that
one of the three notched stems that holds the foam piece in place at the top
was rubbing into the metal under the carpeted deck cover. I used some
pliable windshield putty to wrap around the stem and the sound went away. It
drove my nutso for about two weeks before I could track it down.

Funny you mention that I just took it to the shop today for that same
reason. They are only looking at it tomorrow, but they thought it maybe a
bushing. I also have eibach springs in my car. I'll let you know what they
find.

I also have a 94GT with the same problem. I have Eibach lowering springs on mine
also. I thought it might possibly be my control arms. I'll check my back seat first
thing. The Eibach's were on my car when I bought it, I noticed that the rubber
stops over the axle are missing, could this damage anything?

Thanks,

It's Ford's code name (although it's popular for the general public to
use it now) for the Mustang platform from '94 to ? (sounds like it'll be
switching to S197 for 2003). Technically, it stands for Sports car
North america #95. The 95 is nothing other than the ordinal for when
the platform was developed... it doesn't mean 1995 (the year).

Just got my 97 from the shop and they replaced a control arm. Not sure which
one, I haven't crawled under the car yet.

That's interesting, Ken. My '98 GT doesn't creak, but I'll rub a little
white lithium grease on the latches to keep it creak-free just the
same. Thanks for the advice.

My 98 GT has/had a bunch of annoying noises, although I'm pretty picky. One
major squeak in the back was fixed by Ford and they said it was a gas tank
spacer that came loose. Another weirder noise is a quick rattle that sounds
like it's coming from the gas filler tube.. at least that's my guess, since
it only happens on a full tank and it continues rattling for a few seconds
even after I've come to a complete stop and turned off the car (the last few
seconds sound more like dripping), which is pretty odd, and also if I make a
sharp turn with a full tank. Lastly, both door panels squeak, usually just
if someone has their arm resting on them but sometimes even without..
although sometimes they're totally quiet.

Will Ford fix common rattles or squeaking like the door panels under
warranty?

Yes, mine's in today for a squeaking noise in the left rear. This
is about the third time it's been in for various noises that aren't
supposed to be there. That's what the warranty is for, especially
when you spend upwards of $20K...
