Maybe I'm a little slow, but I just noticed that "premium" fuel dropped
from 92 octane to 91 octane (southern kalifornia). Of course the price
is still the same. Is this nationwide or just us lucky left coasters?
Anyone know the reason (besides the obvious)?

Here in Georgia, the bargain brand premium is 92 octane but most name brands
are 93 octane. I haven't seen any premium that was below 92 octane.

What does premium stand for, is that the lowest or highest that you can get?
Over here in the Netherlands years ago we had a fueltype called normaal
(octane 91), nowadays the lowest is called euro (octane 95) and the highest
is super (octane 98).
BTW euro costs fl 2.50 (which is about 1 dollar) per liter.

The Octane ratings are not the same. The United States uses a different
system then most other countries.

Our premium is very similar to your super.

Someone posted a conversion here a while back.

Nope, it just happened a couple of weeks ago. If you looked very
carefully, the mid grade gas dropped from 89 to 88.5, but now it's all
back to 89. No matter, only true performance cars like Volkswagens
need 92 octane anymore ;) 87 is fine for me.
