I'm really bored at work today, so I thought I would write the story behind
my first Mustang........

Back in '98, it was time for me to buy a new car. After much thought about
what car I wanted and the amount I can afford, I decide to take the
practical route and purchase a brand new black Honda Civic EX coupe. For
the first year, I was overall happy with driving it around town. I could
never get used to the 4 banger, since this was my first one, but I enjoyed
the 10 dollar per week fill-ups.

Fast forward one year.....I wake up one morning and realize that I don't
really like the Honda anymore. It's just not me. After a few weeks
thinking about cars, I get a bug about getting a convertible and I can't
shake it. After looking through the web, magazines, etc. and run some
numbers I decide that a Mustang convertable is the perfect choice. I
begin my search.

At this point, I have a set list of options, color and trim. The car MUST
be a stock 5 speed convertible GT, Opal Frost, black top, leather and 17"
rims. No exceptions.

For about two months, I search just about everywhere in Southern California
and find nothing. I then take a chance and put the Honda up for sale and
deal with my lack of transportation afterwards. The first caller shows up
the next day and gives me a deposit for the Honda. The ball is rolling
here and I'm about a day from buying a train pass.

That very same evening I'm surfing recycler.com a guess what I find? Yes,
a Mustang GT per my exact specs. about 10 minutes away from my house. I
call, set up an appointment to meet the guy and take it for a drive.
The next day I take a look at the Mustang and it's a mint 96GT, 26k on the
odometer and new 17" rubber. I make an offer, haggle a bit, then agree on
a selling price. I have just bought my first Stang. YES!!!

I really felt that luck was on my side those two days. I was envisioning
long walks to the grocery store until one day a silver GT showed up for
sale.

I get the car and instantly become a Mustang nut. This car is undoubtedly
the most fun car to drive compared to my others. During one year time, I
discover this NG and the Corral for information. I'm hooked in deep now
and there's no way out ;-)

Until recently, I had no idea that my car is not all too common. I
discover that there were only 4500+ in my color for 1996 and divide that
number by trim and convertible and I estimated my car at about 1000
produced. Well, as of yesterday a source with access to Ford production
numbers informed me that my car is 1 of 52 made in 1996. That sure was
a lucky day back in '99.

Just curious, where did you find the production numbers for that car. I am
interested in just how many teal '93 lx's with black interior are out there.
I'm sure its alot more than 52 but i haven't ever seen another.

Hehehe Good story man.
WHen I was about 15, my big brother had bought a 88 GT. After the first ride
in that 5.0 5speed, I had gotten hooked. 6 years later, I'm 21, and I bought
my first 5.0, 95 GT 5spd in Christmas of 2000! My christmas present to myself
:0) My big bro STILL has his 88 GT, running strong, but he is in the air force
now so his car is in storage.

Cool...thanks for that link. Found out there were only 3901 Spring Feature
package cars made in 2000. It doesn't break down from there, but I must
have one of at least under a thousand, since mine's a 'vert...

(Of course, there's one IDENTICAL to mine right here in the same town, a
friend of mine from work bought it the same week as I did, neither of us
knew the other had bought one 'till later. I imagine this is what women
feel like when someone else at the party has the same dress...)

You should get your brother to let you look after it while he's off
overseas.
