Hi,
I've been searching in these almost 8,000 postings but haven't found this
question yet, so I appologize if it is a dumb or tired question:

I want to buy some new wheels for my 95 Mustang GT Conv. and I meant to buy
them at Diversified Products Marketing for $1,100, the best price I have
seen yet for the OEM Ford SVT 1995 Cobra R Chrome wheels 17"x9". But I did
some more research to be sure and send some faxes and emails to other
companies. One of those companies, AFS (Auto Fleet Sales, Inc.) sent me some
info about their replicas: they offer them in 17x8, 17x9, and 17x10.5. Some
of the advantages the salesman point out were that theirs have the wheel's
finish work of higher quality than the OEM's, they are pre-hand polished,
hte paint is baked on the rim (OEM's are spray painted), they are clear
coated for protection, and most of all, if the OEM's center cap gets lost or
stolen, you have to buy the new entire wheel again.

So my question is this, is all this true? And, it is also true that if I
loose my OEM center cap I won't be able to get a replacement? Are the center
caps easily stolen from the outside?

Thanks for any help on this,

Sincerely,

Eduardo Marquez Blake

Sorry, I forgot to mention the price for the replicas: the AFS 17x9 chromes
are $1,050 set of 4 (free shipping), and the OEMs are $1,100 plus shipping
(about $60-70).

Thanks for any comment on this.

this close, its a no brainer.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I think I'll need all the luck in the world because I
really know don't know anything about wheels, as you will see in my next
question:

What's hubcentric and what's the advantage?

Thanks again for you help.

if you're a 5-lugger, tirerack.com is the best deal as they mount and
balance for free....plus 3 warehouses so shipping cost is less (vs.
single warehouse in CA...so if you're in NY, it's about $100 shipping
vs. ~$40 coming out of, say, Ohio)

they dont have 17" 4-lug wheels though

Thanks, it has 5 lugs and I live in California. I was thinking of
tirerack.com but I had to buy new tires (from discount tires) when I was
visiting my girlfriend in San Diego, and I couldn't wait because my tires
wasn't good for traveling anymore. So I already have four new 255/45-17.
What I'm really looking for right now are only the wheels, but I can't make
up my mind yet. Does the OEM are really better than the AFS's? and does the
center cap can really get stolen easily? Thanks again for all your help
guys.

Sincerely,

AFS doesn't charge $100 for shipping. I live in PA and bought wheels from
them. Charge was $65 for shipping. Also, AFS will sell SLIGHTLY blem-ed
wheels for HUGE savings. I got 4 Cobra chromes for $800 and I can't find
the blems on them.

you know the part of the hub that extends on the inside,? its about the same
size as the hole in the middle of your factory wheel. well anyway, this has a
very close fit, wheel to hub the is....this is so the wheel is centered on the
hub without haveing the lug nuts do it. this means the wheel will have much less
runout than if the wheel does not ride on the hub and is centered with the lugs
only.
hope that helps........its actually hard to explain.........

If it's lost or stolen you can buy a replacement from Ford by sending a copy of
the original receipt showing that you actually own the real Ford wheels.

It's a pretty big pain. I have new center caps for mine and have yet to install
them because after a mild attempt, I was convinced I couldn't get them out
without damage unless I take the rim off. I didn't try a sucktion cup though. I
won't say a thief can't get it off but I seriously doubt you'd ever lose it.

In an ad in the Sep '00 of MM&FF, AFS offer free shiping on the Cobra R
wheels (replicas of course), so for the 17x9 Chrome would be $1,050.00
Dlls., and at Diversified Products Marketing, they offered the 17x9 Chrome
OEM Cobra R Wheels for $1,100.00 Dlls. plus $65.00 Shipping. But after what
you are saying here, may be is a better idea to go for the OEMs, right?

Thanks to all!

I bought mine from AFS about 3 months ago. I haven't had any problems with
them yet. They look really nice. Since I live in California, 30 minutes away
from AFS I went and picked them up myself. While there I looked at them and
made sure that they were fine and exactly how I wanted them. Of course, they
were. As for the caps, They are practically impossible to get stolen. Good
Luck.

that company in MM&FF (performance wheel outlet) supposedly makes the
actual OEM wheels

depends on the centercap and if it has locks...if it doesn't then all
you need is a screwdriver

there's also a very easy way to pick those center cap locks, but i
won't say as this can lead to a lot of shit if bad people reads it

you're right, it was around $65 or so....but they charge if you want
the tires mounted and balanced

cheapest to buy everything from tirerack.com though

Discount Tires has a hidden "tire kit" that they don't tell you about
btw

What is the deal with the tire kit? Does Discount offer the AFS rims at a
cheaper price?

Also, I do not remember where I saw it but I have seen some Cobra R replicas
in an 18" size, anyone have info on those?
