Those of us who can use performance machines, and those of us who
can't but still spend alot of time on 2 wheels anyway, use
"cager" as a derogatory term to refer to drivers of automobiles
and trucks. The term is definately derogatory in nature. A
"cage", as in four wheeled safety cage, is required for a "cager"
because playing bumper cars is what they do, with a complete
disregard for driving skill, paying attention, twiddling with the
radio, doing their hair, etc etc.

They are simply big, slow, ungainly, dangerous, and, in my humble
opinion, incompetent.

Does this help?

Does cage refer to convertibles, too?

Which only brings up another question: If cagers (and their cages) are such a
dangerous nuisance, why would you ride your bike amongst them? Those big,
slow, ungainly, dangerous SUVs and their INHO incompetent drivers scare the
hell out of me, and I'm in a safety "cage". It would be utterly foolish to
ride a bike in such dangerous conditions.

Yep. Convertibles, trucks, econo boxes, mini-vans, semi's,
HumVee's, etc etc.

Because I am BRAVE! And I have the advantages inherent in a
performance machine! Which, while few in number, are substantial
in quality.

Oh...and another explanation...if I have to explain to you the
wonders of a motorcycle, you wouldn't understand. It appears to
be one of THOSE kinds of activities, no matter how hard you try,
explanation just doesn't do it. Either you can, or you can't. If
you can't, you cage, and then wonder why people ride those silly
2 wheelers. If you can, you do, and you know.

You don't so much RIDE among them as try and SURVIVE among
them...a concept which few cagers understand. It comes down to
the mindset really, cagers don't ever have to be responsible for
their actions, they slam and bang into things, oops, dinged
bumper, dented quarter panel, somebody call the insurance
company.

Regardless of fault, if a bike is involved, the bikes rider is
the one who is gonna get hurt. So...you get hurt and get out of
the sport, or you pay attention, learn to trust no cager
incompetents, and you survive. Maybe.

No. Actually, the F4i is a serious 600 series sportbike. One capable of
knocking your dick in the dirt if your not careful. A Ninja 250/500 is a
beginner bike.

I think Troy stepped up from the F4 to the 929 and just hasn't changed the E

No, Cindy, he's right. Take for example my 1988 Bronco. It is big (for
example 35" mud terrain tires), slow (only 190 horse and 280 lbs of torque
pulling almost 6000lbs of American sheet metal), ungainly (handles um, not
too good), dangerous (only to Troy (and the environment)) and sure, even
incompetent: but of course, the day "I" am incompetent, Troy, for you, it
ain't going to matter. Splat.

Unfortunately, up here in the Rockies, it's getting cold now and all the

Says you slow poke. Even as you post I am re-mapping fuel
injection, installing kit pads and SS lines, checking the
pressure on the race tires, preparing for combat at 150mph down
Lagunas front straight with my knee touching someone elses
fairing while another lunatic on the other side tries to nudge my

Long, long ago, in a galazy far, far away....

After more than 10 years in the sportbike game I took a one year
hiatus. When I returned in 99 I went out and got an F4, seen here
in action at Road Atlanta in 2000.

http://home.attbi.com/~fivecooks/bikes/atlanta00.jpg

A dozen trips to the track or so and I felt back in form so I
went out and got a machine to make sure the instructors at the
track don't get too cocky...

I kept the email address from way back when because I had no
overwhelming desire to change it.

Besides, if I changed it the twits around here would accuse me of
trying to dodge peoples kill files....

What the garden gnome (troll - gnome, what's the difference) forgot to

tight. That way they don't have to see their acquaintances being scrapped

Us old farts on our cruisers like to look at stuff when we ride. BTW, our

Not a surprise though, squidlings and Mustangs drivers are pretty
similar....maybe thats where squidlings go when their "permanent

performance machines.

i knew this guy once he actually got sponsered to ride for ohio superbike
always bragged about how good he was racing. i asked him he if he owned a
sportbike. he said he didnt. later i had the opertunity to go down to
daytona for the 200. he was there. you know he wrecked both of Ohio
Superbikes 750s, one on his 3rd practice lap and the other in the second lap
of the race. so not everyone who races knows jake shit about bikes. me, i
am a wrench that races i run em like i can fix em. i run at the strip thu
7.30's in the 1/8 at 99 mph with a 1.80 60 footer. no wheelie bars no drag
slicks just me and the old tech 89 GSX-R 750.

For being stupid enough to say sentence #2 as fact...and being
wrong.....I will challenge you on sentence #1...SQUID.

This is the second time TONIGHT I've done this, but then you are
the second person this evening who has dared me..

I'm prepping the Honda for Laguna, need to get some of the mods

October, do you have a particular day you might be interested in
"paying me a visit" ?

Bring a bike or one of those little open wheel spec

spec racer...those things are wicked.

Mid-Ohio as soon as they repave it, I don't like dinky tracks if
at all possible. BeaverRun sounds good though. The big track at
Summit Point perhaps? Road America? The traveling troy show will
be visiting more than one of them next spring and
summer...assuming you have a performance machine....I only
venture out against cages locally, dicing with a cage while
riding a bike is bad news for the bike....

I have been wondering what the hell a cager is and im glad to be one

Im glad i don't need a perfectly dry asphalt road to drive or race on
or have a higher chance of dying or getting hurt by hitting a pothole
even a slow speeds not to mention stay dry when it rains or snows.

Bikes aren't that great in many races like rally or WRC tracks nothing
is more of a rush like powersliding through sharp c and s curves in dirt
and snow or even some asphalt roads while its snowing or raining using a
controlled drift techniques like left foot braking or counterdrift.

Glad i don't have to wuss out for a drive or race if the weather gets
bad, not counting hurricanes, or if the tracks aren't in perfect
conditions like cracks or permafrost or some thing miniscule.

Everytime i see a baja race there are cagers flying by bikes like
their standing still. F1 cagers set allot of the speed records on the
dry tracks

All the land speed records i know of are set by so called cagers there
are go carts driven by kids that will blow bikes away on a racetrack
they are mini cagers.

A) You know nothing about bikes if you think potholes are
dangerous.
B) You know nothing about bikes if you think they can't be used
effectively on wet pavement.
C) You know nothing about bikes if your only concern is the
higher risk involved in learning to use a performance machine.

Sounds like you pretty much know nothing.

A) Drifting two wheels at the same time is much more entertaining
than drifting 4. Any idiot can drift 4 wheels, as evidenced

Let's see.

Bikes: Lighter, better power to weight ratio. 2 wheels are less stable
than 4 (balance a bike a stop light). No protection from the elements, no
protection from injuries sustained from collisions....

Cars; Lower power to weith ratio, stable (4 wheels), enclosed; protects
occupants from weather, less tiring than riding exposed to the elements, can
be used in extreme climates (heat for the snow belt, A/C for the tropical
areas); large frame to protect occupants in case of collision....

And I ride myself, but there is more to life than going from 0-60 in 4.2
