It's a differential that allows only limited slip (as opposed to
lots of slip) between the two drive wheels. HTH.

Its basicly what most people call a posi. It allows a limited amount of
slip between between the left and right wheels, but basicly keeps them
turning the same rpms. The limited amount of slip is for turning corners. On
a turn the inside wheel travels less then the outside wheel. In a true
locked rear end, like a spool, the inside would spin the same rpm as the
outside wheel, which is why they will usally chip going around a corner.
This is why you really don't want a spool on the street. An open rear end is
the most common.

An open wheel end will allow the two wheels to spin different all the time,
and is the most common used diff.

A limited slip differential uses a series of clutches within the
differential to provide traction to BOTH wheels. Historically these
locking devices were called "Positraction" or "Traction-Lok" - these
are just brand names for the same fundamental differential locking
device.

Some good information on this subject is given @
