What follows is a clipping from an automotive overview of the 2000 Mustang
on the MSN CarPoint page:

<snip>------
on the base and GT. Convertibles are equipped with a power top control and
an optional polymer hard top is available.
<snip>------

Anyone know anything about this hard top, does it exist? Or is this a case
of half-baked journalism.

I remember that that was an option for the '94 verts as well. I never
heard of it after the intial press release, and don't know anyone who
has one. I also haven't heard of one available for the '99/2000 verts.

95 Cobra verts have removable hardtops, I'm not sure if it was an option or
standard.

A hard top? I've never seen a hardtop on a mustang vert. Anyone
have anypicks, or know where any are at? it's not that I doubt
you, I just want to see it. The only hardtops I had heard of
were on cars that didn't come in anything other than a
convertible(miata, boxster, s2000, slk, probably more)Please
post!

It was an option in '94, the hard top vert did not have a soft top and the
soft top vert could not be fit with the hard top. Not that many units were
built or sold and the option was discontinued.

When the new Mustang came out in 1994, Ford announced the
hardtop as an option on the convertible. The price was
somewhere around $1200. Due to production delays, the top was
not available when the new Mustang came out. It was delayed
some time and I think might not have been available till the
start of '95 production.

If you ordered this option on your convertible you got a regular
soft convertible top(there was a letter in Mustang Monthly from
a guy who'd bought one used and had a problem with the soft top
because the former owner had never had it up and it had shrunk
and didn't fit tight with the windshield) and this top was
a "winter option" for those living in winter country. You may
have already seen pictures as the convertible with this top as
it did not look much different from the regular coupe.

The option did not find favor, however, with car buyers and a
small number were produced (I think something like 400) before
Ford gave up the idea. As the owner of a 2000 convertible it
would have been an interesting option to consider but I think
the truth is that the new Mustang convertible is so much better
than the Fox convertible (had one of them too) that people just
thought the price and then the summer storage problems were not
worth it.

Actually, it looks just like a regular hardtop coupe. I saw
two '95 Cobras on the dealer's lot with them, and was only
able to tell them by the sticker listing the option. If
you look at a regular hardtop coupe, it has that "seam"
on the bottom of the "C" pillar too.

BTW, I think the option included a storage rack with wheels.
