I recently purchased a 2000 Explorer and wish to install front tow hooks.
I'm concerned that nothing solid is accessible that is not also obstructed
by something plastic or something easily bent, so one good pull will cause
major cosmetic damage. Nothing is available from Ford, and I haven't been
able to find anything from an aftermarket vendor. The only option left
seems to be a custom fabrication job for mega-$$$. Any success stories or
aftermarket vendors/kits? Thanks in advance for the help.

Performance Parts catalog shows a front tow hitch receiver from hidden
hitch that supposed to bolt into exsisting holes and is accessible
through the center opening in the middle of the front bumper. You can
then place a 2" receiver tow hook into it. Check out the catalog for
pictures.

some similar vehicles have tow hooks on the front, Ford should have something-
the 4x4 rangers have them, and so do some of the 2001 sports and sport trac's
good luck

Good luck, I searched months for tow hooks for my 99 XLT. I finally
installed a Rhino brush bar and the local 4x4 shop put tow hooks on this
where it ties into the frame.

I have yet to use the tow hooks, so can't say just how they will
actually work .

This tow hook problem is one of the thing the Ford Explorer group than
ran Moab a couple weeks ago brought up to the Ford Reps. Yes the Sport
has the hooks, but believe it has a different front bumper.

At times I think Ford built the Explorer for soccer moms running kids
around town, never thinking it might actually go off road and need hooks
to help someone or themselves.
