could someone please advise on this situation, We are in the process of doing
headgaskets, timing chain, rod bearings, complete clutch, etc... on my mother's
1994 Ford Ranger XLT V6 4.0L Vehicle is torn down to bare block and A/C
components only in engine bay, Truck has intermittent EGR problem diagnosed
when codes were read at local Ford dealership here. Vehicle has extremely bad
case of spark knock on acceleration. We purchased replacement EGR valve to
install on vehicle, only problem is there is no existing EGR on vehicle at this
time that we have been able to find, According to our Alldata computerwith the
photos showing EGR location and having talked to several other shops including
dealership the EGR should be located on the intake manifold w/ tube running
down and attaching to the exhaust manifold, There are no holes where the EGR
should mount, there is a flat area where it should be but no mounting holes or
cut-out of any sort, also down on exhaust manifold where the tube should run
down and attach to there is no hole or mounting holes where this mounts, only
another flat spot. plus no vacuum lines of any sort in this area. Could someone
please help us to figure this out as it is mind boggling. The vehicle has been
owned by my mother since early 1995 she purchased it from the Ford dealership
it was a demo vehicle and had 7k miles on it when purchased, vehicle has ran
fine w/ no odd noises up until about a year and a half ago when it started
having slight spark knock on heavy acceleration, we passed that off as probably
in need of new plugs, and tune up accessories, after performing replacements
vehicle still had noise. Noise did not increase or cause any performance
problems, about 2 months ago my mother overheated vehicle in middle of night
which is why we are now doing headgasket repairs on it. She continued to drive
the vehicle up until 3 weeks ago when we took it to repair, one of the heads
was cracked due to the over heating. Ever since the over-heat the spark knock
has gotten MUCH louder and is not only on heavy acceleration but on any
acceleration or any driving over 40mph constant. We would like to remedy this
problem but like I mentioned cannot locate EGR placement. Any help would be
appreciated in this matter. Thank You in advance!
