Mechanics familiar with short block repair.......

My 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager minivan is absolutely gorgeous with
everything functioning perfectly,
except for a single #6 rod bearing knock on the 3.3 liter V6. This
occurred as a result of a high speed pass on the Kennedy Expressway.

It is sandstone in color, with rear air conditioning, fold down baby
seats in the middle seat, power everything, tilt wheel, cruise
control, abs, etc.

Just last month, installed 4 new tires with transferable warranty, new
brakes all around, new ATF 3 fluid, a full 12 quarts, not just the 4
quart pan flush, new oil, air filter, breather.filter, etc. Another
words, my van has been meticulously maintained. Prior to the
incident, this van has ran perfectly and STILL DOES except for the
knock.

I wrenched my back removing the oil pan and diagnosing the bearing
failure. I'm just "too old" to do the repair myself properly, hence
the prospect of parting with our beloved van.

Here is the current status:

Installed a new rod bearing.

Upon start up and idle, no noise and proper oil pressure. Upon warm
up, a very slight knock between 1500 and 2000 rpm.

It is derivable to "prove" everything functions perfectly, except the
knock. I am not running the van except to a prospective and serious
buyer.

The current wholesale Kelly Blue Book value is 3,140 with the "private
party purchase value" at 5,200.

If you can do the labor, here is a great way to obtain a 1995 Grand
Voyager for a song of a price.

I will sell it for any reasonable offer but can not afford a properly
rebuilt motor plus labor to install it.

Will let it go for a thousand or so?

Thanks for considering this message.

I had a weird occurrence last weekend.

I have a 90 Grand Voyager I bought used this past February with 100K
miles
on it. I thought this was pretty good since it only averaged 10K per
year.
I have since put 25K on it in the past 9 months and I went to pass
someone
on Sunday (floored out) and about two miles later the engine developed a

major rod knock. This engine was quiet before this incident and never
even
made a knocking noise when started cold in the morning. When I dropped
the
oil pan to check out what happened, I found that the #6 rod bearing had
pretty much self-destructed. Luckily it didn't spin, so I only had to
change out the crankshaft and main/rod bearings (that was an ordeal
since
I had to remove the transaxle and the front end of the engine- which
also
lead to an oil pump and timing chain replacement, too).

This engine always had normal oil pressure, wasn't low on oil and didn't

seem to be a klunker.

The obvious reason for the failure would be bad maintenance, but the
engine was clean inside and it doesn't blow smoke.

Anyone else have an engine failure like this?

BTW, it's back on the road again and is quiet just like it was before
the
bearings went south...
