I seem to recall reading in this newsgroup that the Mitsubishi 3.0 V6
engine is NOT an interference engine, however the service manager at my
local dealership claims it is.

Can anyone tell me which is right?

Thanks.

Here is an excerpt from the 1990 Plymouth Voyager, Chrysler Shop Manual
regarding the pistons in the 3.0 liter engine:

"The piston head with valve recesses, in combination with the
cylinder head, forms a compact spherical head with clearance for total
valve lift with pistons at top dead center."

This statement indicates that the pistons will clear the valves but does
not indicate by how much and at what engine speed. I would still rather
not have a timing belt break.
