I just bought an '03 Wrangler about 2000 miles ago, the issue started a few
days ago.

My brake backing plate only on the rear drivers side is wet and dripping
down onto the inside of the wheel about the size of a quarter overnight, but
then I also had spots in my garage that were coming from the hole in the
skidplate under the gas tank. So I followed the trail and that is coming
from the rear differential vent pipe. I also noticed that the gasket for the
rear differential is orange meaning it must be fairly new, right, or at
least not OEM? Is it possible the previous owner had it done or did it
himself and it was overfilled, or is this something that needs to be
addressed?

Have you been offroading or traveled through deep water recently?

I would get that rig in the air and pulling that diff cover off to
have a look ASAP!

Could be something broken and throwing oil around, could be too much
fluid (though it seems unlikely that it would suddenly show after 2k
miles).

I'd really give the whole axle a good once over with symptoms like
that 'cause even if it's something serious, ignoring it will only make
things worse.
