FLORISSANT, Mo. — A 70-year-old driver was sitting in the driver's
seat of a car parked at a QuikTrip Monday when a teenage carjacker
forcefully pulled him from the car and took his seat. That's when
the driver pulled the same move, removing the attempted carjacker
from the same seat.

The suspect who thought he could push around or pull the driver was
Florissant resident, Marlon Hemphill, 19, according to a press
release from the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney.

According to the release, Hemphill and Michael Williams, 33, of
Jennings, were fleeing police Monday in a stolen 2023 BMW X3.

An officer with the Florissant Police Department spotted the stolen
luxury SUV driving south on W. Florissant Avenue and activated his
siren and emergency lights to stop the vehicle.

Police said Williams escaped officers at speeds higher than 75mph
while weaving in and out of traffic and into oncoming traffic before
crashing into an SUV and sending one of its occupants to the
hospital with minor injuries.

The crash disabled the stolen SUV and Williams was taken into
custody. Hemphill, who was in the stolen SUV's front passenger seat,
ran away from the crash scene, and an officer chased after him.

That's when Hemphill approached the 70-year-old man's car and tried
to carjack him and failed. Hemphill continued trying to run away
from the police until he was arrested.

Officers arresting Williams, a convicted felon, found an AR-style
pistole in the stolen SUV.

Williams faces the following charges:

First-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, a class D felony,
Resisting arrest by fleeing, creating a substantial risk of serious
injury, a class E felony,
Second-degree assault, a class D felony,
and Unlawful possession of a firearm, a class D felony.

Attempted vehicle hijacking, a class C felony,
Resisting/Interfering with arrest, a class A misdemeanor,
and second-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.
