Hello All,
I just purchased a '79 MGB that hasn't run for about five years and I am
trying to get it running. I spent the weekend draining the oil, changing
the cap and rotor, plugs, I put marvel oil in each cylinder, turned it over
until I had oil pressure and am now ready to start it up. One problem, I am
leaking large quantities of fuel from the primary canister. Why is this
happening? The inertia fuel cutoff switch was cracked and leaking so I
removed it. As far as I can understand, all the shutoff switch does is cut
the fuel during an accident. Are these two situations related? What else
should I do before starting this car? I am a college student, so I only have
the weekends to do work on the car. Next time I am home I plan on draining
the remaining fuel and replacing dryrotted fuel lines. The car did fire
with the help of quick-start fluid. Could I have a cracked canister? Any
help would be appreciated.
The fuel cutoff switch was only used in 1977-80. The car is a 1.8L four
cylinder.
Thank you much.
