The guy behind the spray gun is getting a helluva lot of practice, so
he is bound to get pretty darn good! Probably the best paint job for
the money on the planet!

My local MAACO quoted a 1 month warrantee on the $200 job and a 6 month warrantee
on the $600 version. They offer no $500 paint job...

The way to a good paint job with a cheapie outfit like Maaco is to do ALL
the prep work yourself. Remove all your trim and emblems, and use a D/A
sander with 320 grit paper, and sand the vehicle. Then get 400 or 600
grit wet/dry sandpaper, and wetsand the vehicle. Then take the car to
Maaco and let them spray it for you. Yes, the painters are experienced,
so you'll get a decent job. Where they tend to cut corners is on the
prep work; but if you're doing it yourself and you put some effort into
it; you get a decent job for less $$.

Another comment...a "good paint job" from a reputable body shop doesn't
cost $3,000 to $4,000. A good quality job at a local shop will cost from
$600 to about $1800, depending on the amt of bodywork, size of the
vehicle, and the type and color of paint they'll be using. Again, most
shops will spray the vehicle for you if you do all the prep work yourself
(although they usually won't guarantee the work since they didn't do it).
