Anyone have any suggestions or heard of anything that helps with the fuel
economy. I heard one source
that said there is a different chip that can be put into the efi computer
that helps.
Thanks in advance for the reply.

there are things out there that might up your MPG by 1 or 2 MPG (K&N
air filter, less restrictive exhaust system, possibly a new computer
chip, etc) but you have to remember to add up the cost of these items
and figure out how long it will take you to make that money back in
MPG. in the end it may not be worth adding these things.
the things i would try first are:
check to make sure the tire pressure is correct. i read somewhere that
some X millions of gallons of gas is wasted every year because peoples
tires are under inflated.
make sure the vehicle is in tune (ie. change the spark plugs, make
sure the timing is set correctly, etc.)
also, try to drive moderately (ie. no heavy footed starts, avoid stop
and go traffic if possible, etc.)
hope this helps,

Sounds like something is wrong here. I have a 86 F150 with the 5.0 V8
(EFI as well) and automatic tranny. Even when towing my horses around
(trailer with horses weighs roughly 5,000 pounds and is 7'4" tall inside)
I get 10 to 12 MPG. Empty I average 14MPG and have seen 18MPG on the
highway. Even with 4X4 and the F250 extra weight, you should be getting
at least 12MPG.
Have you cleaned your fuel injectors? I have to run cleaner in the gas
about every 2000 miles or my milage drops and the idle gets rough. I
I use Berryman's Chemtool. I have seen as much as a 2MPG increase in
MPG after adding a can of Berryman's Chemtool.
I would suggest having Ford, or a shop that specializes in EFI, check
out your motor. You could have a bad sensor. My milage went down to
about 10 when my engine temp sensor went bad, as well as when my 02
sensor went out.
