Rust will be the biggest problem, check the floor and wheel arches.

Have a look at http://www.golden.net/~juliag/suzuki

There was one recall on the Sammy's about safety - on my 1988, the recall
required the dealer to replace the seatbelt receivers because the red
plastic buttons on the original ones would break off into the receiver
rendering the seat belt useless. An additional recall was issue on some
early carburated models to fix a hesitation problem. If you pull the cover
over the carb you should see a small tube coming out of one side of the carb
extending part way over the throat. My 1988 had no rust (except the exhaust
system which I replaced) when I bought it in 1996 but I suspect this is an
exception rather than a rule. I've seen service bulletins on a small
variety of other problems most of which are minor nuisances. The suzuki
section of www.off-road.com also has some excellent information about minor
problems and includes a bulleting board where suzuki owners exchange
information on a regular basis, you could ask some of them. I've seen
several posts there which talk about excessive oil consumption in the
engines above 100k miles due to worn oil control rings. (my engine has 66k
miles and doesn't burn any oil over a 6 month period) I found a list of all
suzuki-issued tech service bulletins somewhere on the net but I can't
remember where. You should check the fluid in the rear differential and the
transmission since these two areas seem to collect the most crud. A
compression check is always valuable when purchasing a used vehicle. Good
luck - R

No one mentioned that a thick skin is good for a Samurai owner , as he
will be exposed to constant ridicule, regardless of the capabilities of
the vehicle.

Narrow axle width can be a problem on trails with deep ruts.
