Hello everyone! I have a 1995 2500 4x4 suburban with a 454 in it. My
buddy just totaled his 97 suburban and bought it back from the ins. company,
(same motor only its a vortec. ) so my question to everyone out there
in cyber land, is what all pieces would i need to buy from him in order to
make my motor run with the Vortec intake? I want to just swapp out the
vortec portion and keep my block if possible cause my block has much less
miles on it. Let me know if you have any expereince or ideas on this
topic.

Thanks in advance

Ryan

I wasn't aware that the Vortec heads were available for the Big Block
motors, I had thought they were only for the small blocks....

Anyway, in principle if he has a 454, all you should have to do is swap the
top.. Since Vortec is supposed to be a whole system, you probably want to
grab the intake manifold and all its associated gear along with the control
computer. This and the heads should be able to work fine on your block.

I know Vortec is the current "hot setup", but I have had both TBI and Vortec
trucks and frankly, I think the TBI intake had a little more torque on the
bottom end. The Vortec did "pull" higher up the RPM band, but I'll take the
torque. It might just be my particular trucks I know, but the point I'm trying
to make is TBI is good for building torque and power, perhaps not with the
economy of port fuel injection, but still good power. I'm not so sure I would
make the swap. Also I think the TBI uses a low pressure fuel feed, whereas port
fuel injection requires high pressure. You may need to rework you fuel system,
but I'm not sure.
