Anybody seen a rear cargo/tonneau cover for the
Expedition yet? It's the only item I miss that my old Bronco
had. I can't believe this isn't an standard/optional item.

I'm in the market for a new SUV. The new baby is on the way and my 15
month old daughter is getting to big to deal with my Geo Trackers 2
doors (I'm getting older too, oh... my back)
We've looked at them all
4-Runner... Love it, but mark up will kill you
Land Cruiser...considering a used 91/92 75,000miles, $19.5
Pathfinder.. great ride, like my sentra, but local dealer sucks
Grand Cherokee...everyone has one, reliability probs?, spare inside
Explorer...something about fords?
Trooper...great deals but loose steering, bus like
rodeo/passport...spare tire carrier swings right, rear tailgate
Tahoe/Yukon...caddy of suv's, 5 month wait, high mark up
Blazer/Jimmy/Brava...when will GM stop using cheap interiors?
Discovery....must I comment
Montero...$41,000?, I don't think so

No I hear about the new Montero Sport. Pictures and articles show a
nice truck at a good price. Has alot of extra's.
How is the Mitsubishi quality, realibility and holding value. I hope
to keep a truck for 6 to 8 years, 4x4ing limited to beach here in North
Carolina.
Thanks for any response and all input,(I think)

I can't believe it either. I found the number for a product specialist
at Michigan Truck Assembly and called. If you can believe it, Ford
didn't think that a cargo cover would be important for buyers of "this
class of vehicles." However, it appears that they have been receiving
complaints galore from Expedition owners and one is on the way. I am
also told by my friendly truck aftermarket store that a couple of
aftermarket versions are about ready to be introduced.

It has been my experience that Ford is incredibly stupid in how the make
"customer" decisions in some instances. For example, the cargo cover.
For example, not having the full F-150 color pallate available on the
Expedition, blah, blah. My EB is built well and rides well. But, I
gotta say that the only way that anyone is going to get 16-18 mpg as
advertised on these things is to fill the passenger compartment with
helium <grin>.

Ted:

You might check with your local Ford Dealer. they seem to be the only game in town right now relative to accessories. I ordered a rear cargo liner for my Expedition and it only took about a week to get it in. They should have something that would work for you.

Well Frank,

You make a great point. That was also another complaint of mine.
I have the dark red XLT and would have liked getting a factory two
tone. I'll have to settle for a body shop paint job once I get up the
nerve. Either that or I'm looking at putting on Gray wheel well flares
to break up the color a bit. Complaint #2 is the unavailability of the
moonroof option on the XLT. My buddy tried talking me into ordering an
EB but I'm not too crazy for leather. Mileage wise, I'm looking at
11-12 right now. A friend of mine who bought his the same time just
got 17mpg from philly to Baltimore and back the other day, or so he
claims. He's not a real leadfoot though. Usually sticks to 65. Even at
11-12, I'm doing better than I did with my Explorer, which got 11 in
the city. It was good though on the hwy at 21mpg. I don't think I'll
be seeing that in the near future. :>)

PS: If you come across the maker of the covers in the near future
keep me in mind and let me know who they are so I can look into
getting one. I'll do the same from my end.

I don't necessarily agree with this assessment. The cover has proven
very handy in my experience. I subscribe to the "out of sight..."
theory. I've got a CD changer, fire extinguisher, rescue tools, often
a briefcase w/computer, etc in the back which are covered up nicely by
the cover. If a thief could see this, they'd be tempted. In an SUV,
you lack the luxury of putting valuables in the trunk (which isn't that
secure, after all). My point is that if thieves can see it, they want
it, and nothing (locks, alarms, etc) is going to prevent them from
getting it.

If it's in the way, take it out, takes all of two seconds.

If you're really concerned about security, don't put valuables in your
vehicle. No security system is foolproof.
