When I got 120,000+ miles on my '91 Jeep Cherokee(2WD) a few days ago,
that red display "Maint reqd" turned on. Since I cannot find anything
wrong with my Jeep, I suspect the display turns on automatically once
the odometer passes 120,000miles. Is that right?
Can somebody tell me how to reset the display? Does anybody know what
the 120,000miles maintenance includes(Timing belt?)?

Thanks,
Jens

If its the 4.0L I6 also in wranglers, it has a timing chain, that
according to all the dealerships i talked to (if you believe them...thats
why i called a few) doesn't have to be replaced until the timing is off.

it may have that set to go off because of some kind of emmission control
system maintanance after however many miles...just a guess

i think that you either need to reset the computer or disconnect the unit
that was set to go off at that mileage (i have no idea where it would be,
sorry)

At 120,000, the main reqd light should come on to remind u to change
the O2 sensor. I did and then I disconnected the light. Older
Cherokees and YJs had a clockwork setup under that dash that you could
reset if you were handy. I don't know if the 4.0L Jeeps had that
timer or if the computer itself needs to be reset.

It's for the oxygen sensor and it hasn't necessarily gone bad.
My Jeep dealer says it's set to come on automatically after so
much time or so many miles. Since I have had mine replaced now
about three times and since (believe me) you will know if the
oxygen sensor goes bad, I just took the front dash panel off and
removed the light bulb. Crude I guess, but effective. This was
done at least a year ago and I have not had any problems.
