I have a 1986 Dodge Ram 50 with a 2.6 liter engine and 5 speed manual
trans. When I got the engine, I partially rebuilt it. That is, pull
the head to get it reworked, pull the pistons to rering them, replace
the crankshaft bearings. I used standard sized rings to rebuild this.
The cylinders on #1 and # 4? seem to have unusual wear on the walls.
They looked slightly recessed or hollow?
Anyone ever dealt with this and have a cure.

P.S. I recently found out that the bolts do stretch and that they
should have been replaced. I did not know this at the time of the
rebuild!!!!

Thanks, Mel

@lakeread08:

The only cure for this is to bore the block. IF it can be bored. Many
engines today are designed with the cylinder walls so thin that
overboring is not recommended.

You can't 'idiot proof' anything....every time you try, they just make
better idiots.

Yup..you got to rebore the block..That is the way to do it. It is
caused by the worn out cylinder #1 and #4.or you can just get urself a
new one and rework it all over again..good luck..
