How good are these speakers (I'm not a regular reader of this group. My
audio system costs less than a grand. Really! That's where I'm coming from.)
Have any of the audio magazines every reviewed them? What did they sell for
(not list for) when they where new? Are they still being made? What are a
pair worth on the used market in excellent shape today (ballpark)?
Anything you can tell me these speakers would be helpful.
Cheers!
John

Sorry to say, John, but these are one example of the dreaded "white van"
speakers oft mentioned in this newsgroup. They are cheaply built using
low quality drivers with now "design" per se. They are part of a
marketing scheme that often uses college kids in vans to drive around
parking lots selling these as "closeouts" or "overstocks" or even "hot".
The sellers cliam some fantastic retail price (which not only
mythological, it's misrepresentation to the point where the Federal Trade
Comission, the Indiana and California Attorneys General and oethers have
brought forth indictements for criminal misrepresentation and interstate
fraud).
They are, in a word, not very good. They're made to look impressive enough
to sell at a whopping profit. I worked on some of these cases as an expert
witness. The manufacturing cost of the speaker is below $20, yet the
sellers have claimed "retail" prices as high as $1200/pair. You will never
see such speakers in a retail establishment, and if you find something
comparable in cinstruction or performance, it will usually be as part of a
big $400 "rack" system.
The efficiency is low (contrary to their claims), the distortion is high,
the frequency response is poor (contrary to their claims), they are NOT
used as monitors in recording studios (contrary to their claims) or by
professional DJ's (except as junk speakers they don't care about
destroying).

My friend hust bought a pair, and I never had a chance to warn him. He paid $200 for them, so I guess he could have done worse.
