Have you checked the conveyor belts of the transporting pulleys as
well? Change new one when necessary and it will help.

This is a calibration problem. Over a period of time a transport moter
will drift. Not so much with newer model decks, but with older ones,
and/or if it is a inexpensive type, this happens. It could also be
related to worn parts like the pinch roller. The more worn the pinch
roller is, the faster the tape plays. Pinch rollers wear out as an
normal function of being used. As a side note, tapes made on on machine
should always be played on that same machine. This is not always practicle,
but it is the only way to insure proper tracking.

If it's just a pinch roller, thier fairly cheap. A couple of bucks
plus any labor. If it's a moter tweak, this should also not be
very much. A new moter should be less than $30 I would think.

If you don't want to put any money into the deck, just record and play
back the same tapes. New decks are cheap these days...

Good luck!

I don't know the specifics of your deck, but I do know that I had to
put my Tascam 238 in the shop w/a similar problem & it turned out to
be a bad capstan motor ($240 after parts & labor!!!)

Good luck.

Hell, I'll do just about anything for money.
(and no, no one else is entitled to take credit for
my opinions.)
