I am considering getting either the Yamaha CDC-735 or the Onkyo DX-C606
carousel CD player and would like opinions of anyone familiar with one
or both of these machines. Possible topics include:

- sound quality

- reliability

- features and convenience:

- programming flexibility. What options do you have for programming
the machine to play certain disks or tracks? Can you also have it
play tracks in random order from one or all disks without additional
programming?

- Any other comments on features you like or don't like?

- Any other comments?

Thanks

I own an Onkyo DX-C606. It's a very acceptable CD player

Sounds like it's coming right off a CD
: - reliability
7 months - No problems - which should be expected
: - features and convenience:
It's nice to have the six disc changer rather than five. It's
fairly fast at loading and unloading and fairly quiet. I've seen a few
better and a lot worse. the next selection function is pretty cool but
it's too bad they didn't put it on the remote.(next selection lets you
program the next song to be played while the current song is still playing)

The Onkyo has Random play with track memory(won't play the same
track twice) It's default setting is to play all 6 disks randomly. If
you want just one disc to play randomly you must first program that disc
into memory(push 2-3 buttons). It also plays a set of pre-programmed tracks
randomly without repeat. It has all the usual repeat functions.

For some reason it makes a wierd and soft clicking sound when the
platter is rotating. It still works the same but the clicking kind of bugs me.

I also looked at getting the Yamaha you speak of. I decided on the
Onkyo because of the 6-disc changer instead of 5 and I also trust Onkyo
more than I trust Yamaha(*Reason 1*- I have a friend that works at a service
center that told me that he had to fix a yamaha CD player-unsure of model
number- and he opened it up and inside he found a Sharp CD player -Looked
like a Yamaha;worked like a Sharp.*Reason 2*-I had an Onkyo cassette deck for
about 6 years without a single problem-I sold it to my sister since I no
longer have any cassettes to listen to). One thing nice about the yamaha is
that you can change any disc while one is being played while on the Onkyo
you can only change 3 of the discs. I was curious to see how the Onkyo
worked so I took it apart and found out that the whole drawer and laser
assembly is one unit that is motor driven in and out of it's case. Pretty
neat idea.
Overall I'm very satisfied with the performance of the Onkyo.
