velodyne has a strong argument for servo feedback in subwoofers. the ear
is much more sensitive to middle frequency energy than to low frequency
energy, so a large amount of energy is required to produce normal bass. a
small percentage distortion of this energy is still a relatively large
amount of distortion, and more importantly, the distortion is displaced
upward in frequency to where the ear is much more sensitive to energy,
making the distiortion much more noxious. (the distortion is displaced
upward in frequency because it consists of higher order harmonics.)
all this indicates that subwoofer distortion should be kept very low, which
can be done with survo feedback.
