Several knowledgeable people have suggested that when I'm not using my
PC, it should be left running (heads parked). The logic is that hard
disks are under less strain spinning constantly, rather than spinning
up and spinning down, and ICs are under less strain at a constant
temperature, rather than heating up and cooling down.

What is the recommended disposition of (solid state) audio equipment
when not in use? Powered off? Powered on, w/speaker switches off?
Preamp on/power amp off? Something else? (I have an Adcom GTP-400 and
GFA-535.)

Thanks.
