FE is probably a temporary name, like TDK AD-R that they only sold for
a short time. Some kind of jubilée if i remember right.

No, FE is just one of several sub-D tapes that TDK have sold (at least
here in the UK).

I like the comparison :-)

Depends on your application ... for (most) in car tape players,
walkmans, boomboxes, etc. anything better than D is probably a waste
of money. If you want some semblance of fidelity, though, you really
need to go to TDK SA-K or Maxell XLIIS at a minimum.

The FEs seem to have been around for a while, and I suspect are a
rebranding of what was previously sold as "TDK Ferric". They tend to
only be seen in packs of 10 aimed at impulse buyers, right by the
tills in the bigger record stores.
I remember the AD-R's though ... came in a soft plastic case that
looked great until you wanted to label it or put it on a shelf :-(

Hmm, Uk you say. It seems like TDK have different series of tapes in
different countries.

Yeahh, black with golden text

I'd go for SA-90s for 79p (RRP £2.49 or 3 for a fiver IIRC) from Richer
Sounds if they still do them. Excellent cassette.
They also sell other brands like Sony and BASF chromes from 69p. At that
price why bother with ferric?
