My news has been undergoing some modifications here lately and I'm not
sure that my original post ever made it out. My apologies if it was so
transmitted.

I recently acquired a pair of Dahlquist DQ-10 speakers for a song. I
pester the neighborhood by driving these with a Hafler 500 amp. Needless
to say, I push a bit too hard sometimes and end up replacing fuses in
the speakers quite frequently. The DQ-10's have a good mid-bass but are
lacking below that, and "below that" is what I'd like to feel more of.

Might there be a complimentary sub-woofer that would fit well with the
above system?? Unfortunately, I am not a big spender. If I hadn't gotten
the system for what I did, I still wouldn't own anything like it. But I'd
still be interested in all price ranges and associated comments.

Thanks!!

In article <98...@sales.GBA.NYU.EDU> I said:

An afterthought: it may have been called the W1. It occurs to me that the
SW1 is one of the Janis products, which are also attractive items if you
can find them on the used market.

Sorry for the ambiguity with model identification. I haven't thought about
the Dahlquist woofer in perhaps ten years.

While you are likely to get referred to Entecs, rec.audio being what it is,
Dahlquist made a decent woofer themselves for the DQ-10.

The Dahlquist woofer was called the SW1 (perhaps hyphenated), and there was
a low-level crossover available for biamping. First order slopes, if I
remember.

The SW1 was not exactly a subwoofer, but it was a rather good woofer. All
things considered, that should be quite adequate for most people, and it
certainly improved on the DQ-10, which is living proof that you can make a
dynamic speaker as wimpy in the bass as my Quads.
