I recently purchased a Sony DTC-690 home DAT deck. I've noticed some
really annoying crackling sounds on most recordings both that I've made and that
others have made form me on different decks. I'm really at a loss as to
what the problem could be. Has anyone else had any experiences like
this with a Sony DTC-690?

Thanks,
Cathy Cullen

There's a well known problem with tape tension for which Sony has
developed a fix. Ask them about it before your unit goes out of
warranty.

Ask your question on the DAT-heads mailing list. That's where the net's
collective DAT wisdom resides.

To subscribe send a message with the word "subscribe" in the body to:

DAT-head...@fedney.near.net

To post:

or

Ask for their "quality listing," the FAQ, and the microphone FAQ.
They're also available via WWW (http://www.atd.ucar.edu/rdp/dat-heads).
The faq is available on ftp from ftp.atd.ucar.edu:pub/dat-heads and
ftp.funet.fi in /pub/culture/music/DAT. The microphone faq is available
from mag...@subpac.enet.dec.com .
