I appreciate any and all input you may have on these players.
Thanks,
Jarik
In addition to this if you already own a CD player with Digital/Optical outputs,
upsampling via external DAC's might offer you better overall sound, and you can
keep your existing CD player as a transport.
If the warranty on the tubed CD units you describe offers a money back home
audition, why not give them a try and send back if you are not satisfied. If
your system is all 'Solid State' then a tube CD player will most definetly add
something different to the overall sound of your CD's. It will be for you to
decide whether it is an improvement or not.
I don't know about that expencive stuf (lack of money) , but I did skip the
op-amp sh*t of my old Onkyo DX2700 (only dual 16 bit) , put in a passive
low-pass filter and added a external tube stage .
All those years I didn't know there was so much music on a (standard) CD !!
Try this first with an old multi-bit and then compare those expencive ones
to
that silly old multi-bit !!!
The only thing I know about the "Heart" is that they use a E88CC and that is
just one tube I don't like , only if you already whiping your behind with
$$$$ ,
you'll be abel to run them hot enough to get linear (worn out soon) .
Two reasons they used this tube :
1) It's very popular
(don't know why , still don't know where to use my 5 (used) <> bottems).
2) Still new ones available from Russia .......
Just my 0.02 euro,
Ronald.
P.S.
If you do like the sound of an E88CC , use at least 2 , both sections are
different !

... on tube gear! They couldn't afford the new snazzy
solid-state-equipped studios in Seattle, so came up north for a deal.
The rest is history...
"Dreamboat Annie" is still one of my favourites for demonstrating the
sound of tubes... along with Brubeck's "Time Out."

Ahh yes! I was just listening to that record a few days ago. (I have a
Nautilus half speed pressing of it..) It sounds awesome, for vinyl.
Makes me want to get a better turntable..
Theres something about watching that Amanita mushroom on the label
spin around..and around...and...
Heart Rocks! My fav's are Dreamboat Annie, and Barracuda (awesome
gee-tar!)
It sounds Soooo nice on tube equipment!
Nothing40.
...And when you run into some snooty salesguy at a music store - just dime
out the loudest amp on the floor and do the intro (don't do the harmonics on
the 12th - just slide right up there and do a nice neck-drop on their
precious guitah'. Pisses them right off...
