Well, I prefer the smooth ones, but the ladies usually like the ribbed
variety, especially if they have the little knobbies on the end. Make
sure to use the ones with the reservoir tips.

Hi RATs!

Yup. They sound different. Some like smooth for phono stages, some like ribbed.
Just plug them in and listen. If you can't decide, sell them and get some more
until you fall in love.

Audio is only partly rumors ;)

I found them both to sound fairly similar- the ribbed plates were a touch
brighter perhaps?

I prefer mullards myself.
I sold a pair a while a go to a fellow from Hong Kong..and he said..we
prefer ribbed.here in Hong Kong..was this tubes he was talking about..makes
you wonder hey!!!
I can't tell the difference from one to another.

I find the ribbed have more of a washboard sound with audio
