Can anyone out there tell me whether the Audio Innovations "First Amp",
which has four 2A3 output tubes, is push-pull or parallel single ended. I
would also appreciate any comments on how this amp sounds. Thanks in
advance!

In article <6pq1g4$v...@news.senate.gov>,

The AN First is a Push Pull type amp. One of the very best push pull amps I
have ever auditioned. The old ones use ECC88 in the first and second stage,
although they hum a bit, they sound better than the newer edition wich uses
ECC82 in the first and second stage.

The Audio Innovations range was the first major outing (there wer a couple
of minor ones prior to this) of Eric Anderson (now of Audion) and Peter
Qvortrop (Audio Note UK).

The First Audio Amplifier was a stereo Push Pull 2A3 amp. In mk1 form it had
ECC88 for all input and driver tubes, and sounded great, but was stupidly
sensitive, and prone to going BANG!. In later form in had ECC82 for all
input and driver stages, and sounded great, but not as good, but is
SIGNIFICANTLY more reliable.

There were a small number of monoblock versions built early on. These
dissapeared when the second audio Amplifier appeared, which were mono block,
parallel push pull 2A3 amps, good for 15W per channel.

Both the first and second audios are amongst the best sounding PP triode
amps ever built. Yet even more performance, clarity and control can be yours
if you add a Border Patrol power supply to them. check out:

all the best
