Dear Sirs,

I found some NOS tubes, mainly 12AX7. On their cardboard cases, in
green, black and white, I found the marks:

ZaeriX , Z&I Aero Services Ltd., London W2 ENGLAND

Can you tell me more on this devices and the ZaeriX manufacturer?
Are these items related with GOLDAERO? I checked their web pages but I
found nothing.

Yours much obliged,
Dragos BORA

Zaerix tubes were also marketed here in Australia, in boxes like you
describe. I haven't seen them sold new since early 1980's. I think they
were mainly Russian. I remember a shocking one they labelled and sold as
6L6GC, pinch-type construction.

Z&I Aero Services used to have a shop in Tottenham Court Road. As a
teenager, I bought an EC52 triode [WWII era grounded grid VHF amplifier]
from them. When I got it home, I looked at it carefully and found it had
gone rusty inside! So far as I know, Z&I went out of business many
years back.

It's a pretty safe bet that your 12AX7's were made in Czeckoslovakia, USSR or
wherever.

I don't think they ever manufactured valves, but I presume they
would buy get valves, printed with the Z&I name, from the manufacturers.
Presumably from east of the [then] iron curtain, as no-one would
[so far as I can imagine] would prefer a valve branded as Z&I over one
with the name of a recognised manufacturer such as Mullard,
Brimar, RCA, etc etc.

Another English brand is Haltron, who were selling valves from the 1950's
or even earlier. I don't know if they ever actually made valves. Some of
their stuff is questionable, especially later on. But it seems to me, from
examples I have here, that they must have also bought surplus stock (new)
then re-branded and re-boxes them Haltron. In some of their Wireless World
Ads in the 1950's they advertised as EXPORT ONLY. So maybe they bought
stuff on the condition that it not be re-sold in Britain!??! Here in
Australia many Haltron valves were used in the military. I also have seen
Mullard branded valves, not made in England, with FOREIGN marked on them.
Anyone know anything about Haltron?

HI David Crittle,

I have a pair of Haltron CCA which was made by Philips & sound good. And
I have seem a Haltron 12AU7 which was a Siemens early type with D shaped
getter. So it seem they bought the tubes from UK, & Europe.
