I have used sovtek 6922 for my ARC VT130.
Recently, I changed Siemens 6922 and sound different. I tried Telefunken
6DJ8 and Ampelex gold pin 6922s.
MY OPINION:
1. Sovtek: Not bad for the price. Bit heavy sound, dark and vague.
2. Amperex: Clear but bit nasal. Caramel(?) or Mellow(?) sound.
3. Telefunken: Very transparent. Little bit white sound. Bass is bit
light but accurate. Maybe I have listened Sovtek too much. Too
expensive.
4. Siemens: Similar to Telefunken. But not in same level. Can live with
considering the price factor.
It is a new world once I know the NOS.
Any comments?

I've also tried all the brands in you list and more, and I like Mullard
6DJ8 and Amperex 7308.

BTW, the worst sounding one - Golden Dragon 6DJ8, make my amp sound
like a solid state.

Try http://www.sovtek.com

But most people think Philips/Sylvania 6922 suck.
One major exception was Miles Nestorovic (remember him?),
who bought 'em by the case.

However, to be fair, regarding 6DJ8 & cousins 6922 and 7308,
there's just very little in the way of consensus opinion, often
in the same gear different people like different stuff!

Any brand you name, I've had some customers swear they
the best thing since sliced bread, and others swore
they stunk the joint up. Just my experience.

Actually, IMHO, sliced bread kinda sucks.
I'd rather have rolls (bolillos) any day.

Real problem is that hearing is very subjective. Studies show most people
can't really tell the difference between one item or another. The only real
distinguishing parameter is volume. Unfortunately, crap played loud is judged
to be better than good played at low volume. I always wonder whether I am
listening to the tubes or the price tag. BTW, Phillips 6922 sound fine to me.

My father says he can't tell the difference between a boom box and anything
else. I guess he is like "most people". I must take after the milkman ,
because the differences kinda grab me by the throat. I can understand
differences in taste but I just don't get this inability to percieve a
difference at all! When I used ARC and CAL Audio Labs I first tried a US type
6DJ8,(can't remember which, it has been a while), then Chinese and finally
Russian sourced versions. To me they all sounded different, but never knocked
me out. I am willing to accept that they just ain't my cup of tea! Some folks
can't stand Edgarhorns. When I got the chance to hear them, I fell in love
with them! I am not going to argue who is 'right' . If I hit on the lottery
I'd buy a set! Once in awhile the best sounding item is even cheaper than
the high priced product. That keeps hope alive!!! Robert Thompson

6DJ8/6922 are not my fav preamp tubes, but I have played
around with several examples, in a few different
cicuits. To me, out of all the audio tubes I have played with,
the 6DJ8/6922 family of tubes seem to be the touchest,
and require circuit tuning to get the best out of them.

The PhilipsUSA 6922 can go from a cold sound to warm
in a matter of a milliamp or two. For the money,
they're not a bad buy, but if your have the ability,
you may want to adjust the voltage current through them.
