I have a catalog from Mark V Electronics, filled with descriptions of their various
amp and pre-amp kits (all semiconductor), among other things. I have built
amplifiers in my past, either from kits or from magazines (analog design skills not
(yet) up to scratch on designing a good one :-) ). Thus, I am interested in buying
a pair of main amp kits and a preamp kit (plus the PSU stuff, etc.).

Has anyone had any experience with Mark V Electronics? If so, were the kits of
good quality, both component-wise and audio performance-wise? Did you have
missing or mismatched components in the kits? Were the construction/tuneup
instructions clear? Were the staff helpful and did they deliver on time?

FWIW, I am interested in their 120W Mosfet Power Amp module kits and either the
Bi-Fet IC pre-amp kit (specs look impressive - I know they can be misleading) or
their new Class A Fet "dynamic buffer" stereo preamp kit (whatever that means -
specs also look impressive).

Thanks in advance for any feedback anyone has for me.

Cheers,

Chris ( c...@bga.com ).

They are a very good outfit. Very responsive and helpful if you have a
problem. I would suggest that you have a little more experience than
average when doing some of the more advanced kits, as they can be a
challange to the novice.

We have been a warrenty center for several years for most of the Mark
V companies and have never had any severe problems with any of their
items. In fact out of most of the companies we do work for we see
their items the least.

How about a phone number or address for a catalog. I have an interest
in building an amp.

I've built several things from Mark V (they have a retail store near
Rosemead here in Southern California). The kits are of decent quality,
and everything that I've built has worked just fine. I have a *few*
minor complaints, though:

1. The potentiometers that come with the kits (especially the preamp
kits) are junk. Well, they aren't any worse than other consumer-grade
components, but they certainly weren't up to my standards. A couple
of bucks spent for some Alps pots are a big improvement. (BTW, Mark V
also sells Alps pots...)

2. A preamp I built from them had a *very* bad hum problem, probably
from poor PC board layout. I had to put the power transformer in a
different box!

After those complaints, though, I can say some very good things about them:

1. The kits work and are fun to assemble.
2. They also sell very nice rack-mount cabinets at very reasonable
prices.
3. And they also sell power transformers that match their kits quite
nicely.

This Is the address from the most rescent Catalog that I have seen. I
never bought anything from them but A friend of mine bought an amp pre
built and the components were of excellent quality. The board had
excellent solder joints and the amp was generally or rugged construction.
I got the impression that they had high quality standards. Though I will
admit that I haven't heard it yet and I have never seen the documentation
one gets if they order it in kit form..

Someone was kind enough to post the number for Mark V a
few weeks ago, when I called they were closed for the day.
I have since lost the number (damn), could someone re-post
the telephone number for Mark V?

Thanks
