Use tape out from the old amp and run it into a spare line-level input
on the new one.
>Can I use an Equalizer with this system?
Consumer EQs normally hook in via tape out/in. You don't have those. You
do have VCR out/in, which may or may not function similarly, so you
might be able to make it work when connected via that loop. Of course
the downside of either is that switching over to actually using the tape
can be a pain.
Personally, I'd consider taking the new box back, figure out what inputs
and outputs you really need, and buy something that actaully meets your
needs.
You almost need another, *audio* preamp with RIAA phono
preamp and line-level audio source selector to feed into this thing.
Your JVC "receiver" seems particularly hostile to audio sources.

I think you have bought equipment that lacks the facilities you
require. Will the shop do a swap?
The Y, Pb, and Pr are component video connections. (The JVC also has
S-video.) The idea is you connect your VCR, DBS, and DVD players' video and
audio outputs to the JVC's video and audio inputs, and the JVC's video
outputs to your TV. You then switch between DVD, DBS and VCR with the JVC
rather than the TV, and the JVC switches the video signal and sound signal
together.
If the TV has line output, you connect your TV, VCR and DVD to the JVC. the
problem then is you have turntable, cassette deck, and CD player, and only
one spare audio input (DBS)
You could play your CDs on your DVD player; that's OK unless you prefer
your CD player to your DVD player for playing audio CDs.
You *might* be able to use one of the digital inputs for your DVD player and
also use the DVD analog inputs for your CD player. So for CDs and DVDs,
you'd select DVD player, and switch between digital and analog inouts for
one or the other.
But you are still short of one audio input ... you have only the DBS input
spare, and need to connect the turntable and cassette deck.
You'll need an RIAA equaliser unit for your turntable. Lt; assume you have
one, and connect it to the DBS input.
So, we are left with the cassette deck. You could connect it to the VCR
input and output instead of the VCR. Then, to hear the VCR via the JVC,
we'd switch the JVC to TV, and the TV to VCR.
QED ... :-)

I realize I could run the turntable and tape deck through my old Dolby
ProLogic amp, and use it as a preamp, but where would I connect that to
the JVC?
My other solution for the connection is this:
TV connected to the VCR. Use VCR tuner for TV output.
Turntable to TV input
DVD to digital DVD input
CD to DVD input
VCR and tape deck to an A/B switch to the VCR in/out connections.
Will this work? Is there an easier way? I'm obviously not happy
needing an A/B switch or needing to use my VCR to control my TV.
Please help!
