The grills on the bose speakers are staple-nailed on or glued on. Use a
putty knife or screwdriver to pry the grill off. (the cloth is wrapped
glued onto thin hardboard)

I came across the same set ( Bose 501). Took them apart by carefully prying
out the staples. And there were many of them -- hidden throughout the fabric
and the sides. Once you remove most (all) of them the you can swing the
three sides out and around: Kind of like a piano hinge.
One of my speakers had a bad foam surround. I thought about contacting the
factory for a replacement. Also thought of picking up some type of replace-
ment speaker at RS or Parts Express. Just haven't had the time.
Inside was a green tag affixed to the bottom :

don't know what M.O. means? | ------- |

I thought the speakers (drivers)inside looked cheap : 10" paper cone woofer
and 2 - 4" (or was it 5") paper cone midrange drivers. The crossover
was a capacitor and coil (I think-- it was a while since I started this
project). I have no idea when this system was manuf. or sold- probably 1970s.
If you have any info on this system and ordering instructions (prices) from
the factory please forward.
